2 weeks later...

That date that Hannah set up for me and that guy Brandon was a mess. When I got ready that night, I began to sweat and it was really unattractive. That whole night I felt gross, and I feel like he was a little grossed out as well. I wouldn't have blamed him if he ditched me. Don't get me wrong though, he was a sweet guy, he has a bright future ahead of him. He told me that he wants to be a doctor, and that he's continuing med school.
I've been head elf for two weeks now, the kids are great though. I love seeing kids who are actually in the Christmas spirit. They were waiting for Santa to come out, but Benny was running late once again, so I decided to bring them around the Mall singing Christmas carols. Everyone else stopped to watch, and I'm sure most of them filmed it on their phones and posted it all over Social Media. When Benny finally arrived the kids starting cheering that Santa was here. One by one they got onto his lap and told Santa what they wanted. After they did that they had their picture taken with him and received a candy cane.
As time I was going by, there were only a few children left standing in line. I looked up for a brief moment and I saw him. Those eyes. Why is he here? I didn't recognize the child he was with. I know for sure he doesn't have any little siblings. Then I saw this beautiful girl standing with him. She had brunette hair and she had pretty green eyes, she was a lot shorter than him though. Of course he would find someone who was ten times prettier than I was.
Clayton looked me right in the eyes and smiled, "How's everything?" For some reason I couldn't speak, he was doing it again, making me feel all weak in the knees and butterflies in my stomach. No, I can't feel that way for him anymore, he broke up with me last year and he's here with this girl and I'm assuming the girls little sister?!
"Everything is fine. Who is this?" I asked smiling at the little girl. "I'm Tamara." She said. "Santa can't wait to meet you!" And I led her over to Benny. It was an awkward silence between us while Tamara was telling Santa what she wanted. I could tell he was staring at me though, I could always tell when his eyes were on me.
After Tamara was done she went towards her sister. "Riley, this is Kassie. Kassie this is Riley." He said with that smile, she looked over at me, she had this look on her as she knew she was better than me. I wasn't going to let that get to me either. So instead of calling her out, I stuck my hand out for her to shake. "It's nice to meet you, Riley." Instead of shaking my hand she gave me a smile, but it wasn't a genuine one. "Nice to meet you, Kassie. Clay has told me so much about you." Great. "Oh really?" I said looking over at Clayton, who of course looked down at the floor instead at me. "All good things." She continued. "Oh I bet." Clayton then looked at Riley, "We should get you guys home." He put his arm over Riley's shoulder and took Tamara's hand. "It was good seeing you Kass!" And he walked away.
Benny walked over to me, "You okay?" He knew something was wrong. I could feel the tears, but I wasn't going to let them fall. Why should I cry over Clayton? I'm over him, and he's clearly over me. "Yeah, I'm fine." I lied. Benny just nodded his head and said "I'll see ya tomorrow." "Bye."
Everything was dark in my apartment, my Christmas tree wasn't even lit. Hannah must've forgotten to light it up. I reached over to the outlet, and as soon as it got plugged in, my whole room shined with different colors. Everything was going good today, until he showed up. And the fact that he had himself a new girlfriend kinda hurt. Why should it though?
When I woke up the next morning , I got on my elf costume and got into my crappy car. It was giving me troubles, it kept stalling. I just didn't have the money to get it fixed. You don't really make that much being an elf.
I showed up a little late for work, and it looked like Kim had me covered. She had two other elf workers to take my place. So before I told I was here, I went up to the food court to get something to eat. And as soon as I got up there, I saw him again. Why does he have to be here? I mean yeah, it's a mall and everyone is allowed to be here. But why him? There was no way I wanted to run into him. It looked like he was the only one here though. What, no girlfriend?
Before I had the chance to walk away, "Kass!" I turned and saw that he was right behind me. Great!
