Chapter 12

a/n: sorry i haven't updated in so long i've had a lot going on with midterms and school stuff but now i'm back so enjoy :)

Maddy's POV

I almost decided to follow Harry out of the elevator and into the hallway of the 4th floor. Almost. I pushed the button that signals the doors to close, and pressed the button for the ground floor once more. I sighed as it lit up and tried to push thoughts of Harry into the back of my mind. I really wanted to enjoy this evening with Liam and Louis. When I walked outside, I shivered slightly at the chilly fall air and silently cursed at myself for not bringing a coat. I hailed a cab, and gave the driver the address to the restaurant. It took around twenty minutes to get there, and it felt twenty degrees colder when I stepped out of the vehicle. I paid the driver and he thanked me before driving away. I stepped inside to the extravagantly decorated waiting area and pulled out my phone to text Louis. Before I could finish typing, I felt someone grab my arm and pull me to a table. I looked up to see Liam and he smiled at me.

"Lou's already sitting down."

"Oh sorry am I late?"

"A little but you're cute so that's okay," Liam smiled and pulled my chair out for me while I blushed and sat.

"Maddy you decided to actually show up!" Louis grinned at me and I swatted at him with my napkin.

"This is a really nice restaurant are you sure it's not too expensive?" I asked the two of them as I glanced around at the nicely dressed dinner guests at the nearby tables.

"Liam's paying for it not me," Louis giggled as he sipped a bubbly drink. "And they don't ask for ID."

Liam rolled his eyes. "My sister works here so we get a discount."

"I feel so underdressed why didn't you guys warn me," I groaned glancing at my leggings and hoodie.

Liam and Louis were both wearing suits, Liam a black and white tux and Louis a blue and gray tux.

"You look hot," I choked on my drink while Louis waggled his eyebrows at me, and Liam looked surprised. "What? I'm gay I'm allowed to say that!"

I burst out laughing, earning glares from some diners at nearby tables and tried to stifle my laughter. Liam just smiled and shook his head, drinking from a bubbly beverage similar to Louis'.

"You guys said you were cousins right?" I asked, trying to start a casual conversation.

"Yep," Louis emphasized the P. "My mom is his mom's sister. My last name's Tomlinson and his is Payne."

Liam nodded in agreement, and before any of us could say anything more the server arrived.

"Hi guys my name is Ellie and I'll be your server for toni- oh. Hi Maddy."

I gulped as I peered up at the curly haired brunette grinning evilly at me. Louis and Liam looked confused, most likely because she stopped in the middle of her sentence to greet me.

"Oh you know each other?" Liam asked looking between us.

"Yeah of course!" Ellie exclaimed before I could speak. "She let me crash at her place for a couple nights last week because I had just moved from Australia."

"Moved? You said you were visiting," I looked away from her and stared at the untouched silverware on the table.

"Yeah well I changed my mind," she put her hand on my shoulder and I shrugged it off. "Maddy here helped me meet a really nice boy named Michael, and boy New York is such a beautiful city!"

I rolled my eyes but Louis and Liam didn't notice because they were too busy staring at Ellie.

"Oh that's so amazing!" Louis exclaimed grinning, and his over-enthusiastic personality was beginning to bother me. "I didn't know Maddy was a matchmaker!"
