TWENTY-SEVEN
_____

It was the tenth day of November when the students of Inarizaki had gone back to attend school which was also a Tuesday. They declared the day before a 'break' in order to let the students rest after the successful school festival.

The weather was slowly but surely getting colder with the wind now blowing harder against Zumi's face as she sat outside on the bench right beside the Cherry Blossom Tree just like she usually did every lunch with Suna, though this time, things had changed considerably compared to when they first hung out at the place.

To say the least, the atmosphere that surrounded them was a little too silent with neither of them bringing up what happened a few days before at the festival. Right after the fireworks display, Suna walked her home though it wasn't as silent as this. Perhaps the tension only caught up to them now that they had the time to actually talk about it.

Zumi sighed as she stared at the red bento placed over her lap, feeling her appetite diminish when the atmosphere made her a bit too conscious to bring herself to eat. She looked to her right and glanced at Suna who was silently eating his lunch quietly but then suddenly averted his gaze to hers as well. Their eyes widened at getting caught at catching glances at each other before snapping their heads the other way to avoid each other's gaze.

She cleared her throat then mumbled, "So... what are you doing for the Winter break?" She poked the bacon inside her bento with her fork and stared intently at it while waiting for him to answer.

Suna frowned, furrowing his brows at the feeling of some prodding feeling that caused his chest to ache for a moment – he breathed in deeply – he was a little disappointed that she was completely trying to dodge the topic of what their relationship was becoming. It made him question himself whether he was really projecting his feelings towards her properly.

He shook it off; No, I'll wait for her.

He reached up to scratch the back of his neck and coughed slightly before saying, "Uh, I might just spend Christmas with my parents and Yuma's family – you know, the usual little family gathering." He paused then looked her before adding, "How about you?"

Zumi hummed and lifted her gaze up to the blue sky that didn't seem to be too bright because of the Sun's lights being covered by the clouds that floated above them. She grinned then answered, "I'm going to Miyagi to spend Christmas with my mom, and most probably hang out with Kei as well."

He scrunched his face up in distaste and muttered in question, "The irritating blond brat?"

She chuckled and reached up to lightly smack the back of his head in warning before scolding, "Hey, don't say that about Kei. He's actually a real sweetheart, just a big tsundere and doesn't really like interacting with new people."

He stuck his tongue out in disgust muttering a small 'ew', earning him another laugh from Zumi, though this time she didn't attempt to hit him playfully. She did understand that her cousin could also be very, if not slightly rude.

They were silent once again with only the wrestling sound of the leaves that were attached on the trees being blown by the winds that were coming from the west. Only portions of light coming from the Sun were reflected on the ground in multiple circular forms, covered by the little spaces in between the leaves.

Suna sighed before slowly asking, "Are we really just going to ignore what happened at the fireworks display?" At this point, his curiosity already ate away the little patience that was contained inside of him.

Zumi tensed, accidentally dropping her fork inside her plastic bento box and clenching her teeth. Her heart pounded against her chest, unconsciously bringing her hand up to scratch her hand agitation but paused midway – no, stop it.

She turned her gaze to the ground and felt his intense gaze at the side of her head before answering quietly, "I know, I've been thinking about t-that a lot for the past few day but... I know that it's too much to ask, but I need more time to think about it." She paused and took a deep breath as she organized her thoughts, "It's just- when you think about it, don't you think it's going to be complicated if we start a r-relationship when I'm about to graduate just a few months away."

She then continued, "I had already planned out in studying Fine Arts in Tokyo since the beginning of the year, and it's a bit far from here. Don't get me wrong, Rin," She bit her lip and mumbled, "I know that I'm starting to like you too but this- I don't think I can bare us being in a relationship when I would barely have any time to see you or maybe even talk to you when I'm away. I don't want what we have now to turn toxic because of the things that we want but can't be fulfilled."

His mouth twitched to a frown. Her words were true and it made the wishes in his mind disappear just because all this happened at such a wrong time. He understood where she was coming from but at the same time, he knew that he wanted to stay by her – but life was just not fair, was it?

He breathed out and mumbled, "I know, I've thought about that too and I understand. But I don't think I can handle just leading myself on and hoping when I know that we won't happen."

Never in his life had he ever thought that he would be worrying about such a troublesome problem like this. He couldn't just turn his head around to look for a shortcut to this complicated puzzle that's been running inside his mind and almost made him want to cry in confusion. That was saying a lot for a person like him that always looked fairly composed and nonchalant about almost everything.

Guess it just proves how much of a human he still is and that he still had emotions even if he rarely ever showed it.

Zumi blinked, her mouth parting in slight shock before quickly composing herself then asking, "Well, tell me. What do you want to do? I'll- I'll try to understand."

He turned his head to stare directly into her eyes before saying, "Maybe we should just take our time away from each other."
