~a month later~

keni walked through the lonely halls of the presidential estate, occasionally passing a butler or a maid who paid her no attention.

they too, thought of her like vermin, thinking that she had no place here, even if she shared the president's blood.

in fact, when the president had agreed the hefty price to save her from her mom's clutches, the entire country of china did not approve.

but she didn't particularly care what they other people thought of her. she only wanted to go back to her real home, which was not a place but a boy by the name of dong sicheng.

just as they were getting along, they had been ripped apart and it stung like an old wound in her heart.

she only wanted her happiness back but when she had appealed to her father, he had violently disagreed, afraid that going back to korea only meant more danger and trouble for her.

he meant well. but he also didn't really know what love really felt like so he couldn't possible sympathize with his daughter.

in his younger days the president hadn't really bothered to find the love of his life, instead he spent different nights with different women.

problematic parents breed problematic children.

keni was essentially locked inside the big presidential estate, and while it was an extremely comfortable life, she felt suffocated with all the heavy glares and the lack of real company.

it was almost comical, the way keni's thoughts were only filled with winwin and occasionally her 'children' of the nct gang. she had never really once paused to think about lucas, her supposed best friend.

maybe she didn't want to dwell too long on him. it hurt too much.

on the other hand, in korea, lucas and winwin were in the same situation. locking themselves in their rooms if they weren't working, barely eating and barely sleeping.

the strange thing was, lucas seemed to be way worse than winwin.

while winwin kept himself at least healthy enough to poor all his time to track down keni, lucas hadn't seen the sun in weeks.

lucas believed that he had no purpose in the search for keni since it was his fault after all that she had been taken away to china.

so when the final plan was formed and the plane tickets were bought, lucas opted out of the mission to everyone's surprise.

he was to stay behind.

and by doing so and making that choice, he was forfeitting his love for her.

~

the press conference was boring as hell.

keni fiddled with the ridiculous, sparkly dress as she sat next to her father. everything about the press conference was absolutely frivolous and she hated it.

she hadn't wanted to go, hell no, but her father had made her. his argument was that the public would start to look at her with a better perspective if she attended government affairs.

she speculated that his real reason was that he didn't want to suffer alone.

the press conference was a big deal. all the biggest politicians gathered at a small party, where the press were invited and paid to write dazzling reviews on the politicians.

the amount of fake energy in the air made keni roll her eyes so many times that she knew the press wouldn't be able to get any pictures of her not rolling her eyes.

her eyes caught an intriguing figure by the door. he was tall and wore all black. what was most interesting is that he wore a masquerade mask that obscured all the features of his face. as he made eye contact with her, he drifted out the door and she got up to follow him, thinking it was suspicious.

she rushed after the figure after excusing herself hastily from the party. he was running now and she had to lift up the sides of the stupidly frilly dress to try and catch up to him.

he seemed to know his way around the presidential estate, making turn after turn until he stopped in front of a door.

keni came to a stop too, catching her breath as she glared at whoever it was, "who are you? and how do you know this is my room?" she gestured at the door which indeed was the door to her bedroom.

there was no answer. the guy only opened the door and shoved her in before entering the room himself.

as he locked the bedroom door keni prepared to kick him where the sun didn't shine.

only she didn't. because when he turned back around to face her, he had taken his mask off.

a face she hadn't seen in a month but had pictured in her mind with every passing minute.

tears fell down her face as she held a hand up to cup his face, "winwin?"

winwin only smiled, his own eyes brimming with tears of joy.

"did i take to long princess?" he asked and keni shook her head.

"as long as you're here now," she wrapped her arms around his waist tightly, not wanting to let go.

winwin looked down at her.

in the short month, it seemed to him that she had gotten even prettier. her eyes sparkled but his attention was now focused on her lips, something he had missed to touch of.

he leaned in slowly until their lips touched.

euphoria.

that's what both of them felt.

as he broke off the kiss his smirked at her, "let's get out of here and continue back home?"

it was only then that keni turned to look at kun waving at her window, apparently perched on top of a ladder.
