Jesse was still sleeping when Nicole came in with a surprise.
"Happy Valentine's day, baby!" She hugged him.
"Thanks, babe." He smiled.
"I've got a surprise for you. Close your eyes."
"Ok." Mr. Whitfield chuckled and she handed him the surprise.
"Now you can open them."
"Uh, what is this? A pregnancy test?"
"No,  Jesse, it's a thermometer," Nicole remarked sarcastically.
"You're pregnant?"
"I am, Jess."
"Oh my-" He sobbed happy tears over her shoulder.
"I thought you'd be excited."
"We-we did it."
"And there's a little something for your birthday outside."
He got up and looked out his door. "Aw, you didn't have to do this Nicole."
"I want you to have all of it. That money is all yours, now you don't have to say you are in a financial struggle."
"That's really sweet." He sniffled, shuffling through the $100 bills. "Thank you."
"You're welcome, babe." She hugged him and he cried.
"You really don't know how much this money means to me. It's-It's really too much."
"No, it isn't. It's just enough to cover the bills for several months."
"Why did you have to be so sweet?" He embraced her.
"It's just who I am, baby." She smiled.
"Umph. I love you so freaking much." Jesse squeezed her.
"I love you too."
"I married a history freak."
"And I married the science nerd." Nicole chuckled and he smiled.
"Yep, you sure did." Mr. Whitfield smooched her.
"Do you want your cake?"
"Cake? You got me a cake?"
"Yeah. After all, it is your birthday." His wife lit the candles and he had his cake.
