To my dearest Clara,

The moon is shining full and bright tonight. I always preferred the moon, most people prefer
the stars because I suppose they are more attractive and sparkle but for some reason I look at the moon and think it is one of the most beautiful things around. Except you of course. People buy their soulmates stars to be romantic and sweet, but I never quite saw the novelty. Like there are millions of stars in the sky so how are you supposed to know which one is yours? Or how are you supposed to know when your star dies? If I wanted to buy my soulmate something they can't touch but can look up into the heavens and see, I would by them the moon. At least then it would stand out.

The moon was shining the night we met. Five years when you say it out loud sounds like a short period of time, but my last five years with you have been like an entirely different life all together. Like the day I fell for your eyes and your smile and everything about you, I was born again and I had never felt so alive. I know love letters are cheesey and like something out of a bad romantic comedy but I needed to express the words that jumble around in my head that I couldn't bear to say out loud. So I am writing you ten love letters, two for each year I have known you since so much happens in a year. Two for each year I have felt truly alive.

I suppose I should start with the day we met, five years ago. As I have said the moon was shining and it glowed down on everyone, making you especially look like an angel from heaven. I know it was Halloween and you were literally dressed like an angel but still, it created a nice affect.

We were at Tommy's annual Halloween party, I went every year out and of guilt for the fact no one actually liked Tommy they just liked his pool. But that year was different because you where there.

Flashback- 31st October 2015

"Theo!" Tommy shouted as I stepped through his front door. The house was shaking it was so full and the music was playing so loudly it was crazy how the police hadn't already turned up.

"Tommy!" I shouted back hyping the already drunk Tommy up.

"How are you mate? Come and get a beer down you. You'll thank me for it later I tell you." Tommy laughed as he thrusted two bottles of beer in my hands and pulled me into the main space.

"Nice party you've got going on here!" I shouted over the loud music.

The room was filled with dancing, drunk twenty something year olds who where either being sick in the plant pots or dancing crazily.

"Thanks, I invited some new people that I have met over the year. Make my legendary party even more so, you know what I mean?" Tommy said drunkly as he struggled to keep up right.

"Who have you invited that I don't know?" I asked as I looked and smiled at the familiar faces.

"Only a couple of people. Sarah Jones, Heather Night, Janice Church and Clara White." Tommy listed counting the names of his fingers.

"Only girls then?" I laughed as Tommy smirked slightly.

"Naturally." Tommy replied which made me feel a bit sick.

Tommy had always been a player. He had broken many hearts in the past twenty one years he had been alive and I hadn't even broken one. I know depressing right.

"Why don't you go talk to one of them, they seem nice." Tommy said as I looked at him like he was a mad man.

"And scare them all away from your party? I don't think so." I laughed as Tommy scowled sarcastically.

"Come on, one day your are going to have to man up and actually speak to someone from the opposite gender you saddo." Tommy said as he pushed me onto the makeshift dance floor.

"I have spoken to plenty or females in my life thank you very much and have enjoyed it!" I shouted loudly causing a few funny looks.

"Your mum doesn't count Theo!" Tommy laughed back as we danced crazily.

I was tired within an hour and just wanted to go home. I was an old man at heart who just wanted to stay in and watch TV on an evening.

"I'm going to go get some air." I said to my group of friends before I walked out into Tommy's garden.

It was quite quite out there this year since the weather was pretty cold. Just last year people were jumping into the pool fully clothed and then stumbling home still soaking wet the next morning.

I thought I was alone until out of the corner of my eye I saw something. An angel but obviously it can't be because they are either not real or I am dead and they have come for me. I'm alive though.

The moon shone down on the angel like a spotlight on a fancy stage where hundreds of people have gathered to catch a glimpse of her. She looked sad and alone, the way I felt.

All of a sudden she looked straight at me and I realised it was a girl. A beautiful girl with hair the deepest brown. She was wearing all white including wings and a hallow except her shoes where bright red.

I hadn't realised I was still watching her and she raised an eyebrow at me.

She glided gracefully towards me and sat down.

"Hello, I'm Clara!" She chirped in a perfectly stable voice. Good she is not drunk.

She stuck out her hand and smiled perfectly at me. I off course took it and shook it maybe a little too roughly because I was nervous.

"I'm... ummm... Theo." I muttered back stuttering dreadfully.

"Well Theo you don't seem so sure that you are Theo but ok." She giggled and it was such a beautiful sound.

"You know it is a costume party right?" Clara asked as she got comfortable on the bench.

"Yes." I replied as I gained my confidence.

"Well then where's your costume?" She laughed as I looked down at my normal clothes but noticed I had some sunglasses in my pocket so I slid them on.

"I am a celebrity undercover desperately hiding from the paparazzi!" I spoke dramatically making Clara laugh happily.

"Well how original. I'm an angel which is pretty basic." Clara replied as she tried to stop laughing at me.

"Well the costume definitely suits you." I replied cheekily just making her laugh again.

"Why aren't you in there then?" I asked as she stopped laughing and looked up at the sky sadly.

"I don't really like parties but this one is truly rubbish. My friends are so two faced it is unreal and my boyfriend just broke up with me." She said softly in a voice that carried so much hurt and sadness in each syllable. I also noticed she was crying but doing her best to hide it.

"Well screw them. I like Tommy but that is about it, and I rarely have a girlfriend so I can't help you there other then it is his loss." I replied awkwardly rubbing her shoulder.

"Really?" Clara asked through her big doe like eyes.

"Off course! What idiot would break up with someone as beautiful and lovely as you Clara. Like I have known you for five minutes and already think that you are brilliant." I reassured as her smile grew and grew.

"Thanks Theo! Your not to bad yourself!" She laughed as she wiped away the stray tears that were rolling down her cheeks.

Back to present day- Letter

So that was the day I met the love of my life, you Clara. We danced just you and me outside in the moonlight until the sun came up and my smile never left my face. It wasn't out of romantic intentions that I spent the rest of my night with the sad girl that I fancied though. It was because you made me smile, you made me laugh and most of all you made me feel a true friendship. I had never felt any off that truly in my life. I love Tommy don't get me wrong, but I have never felt like I can be vulnerable and the person won't judge me for it up until that night.
It was just you, me and the moon.

Love Always, Theo
