To my dazzling Clara,
I remember it like it was only yesterday, but it wasn't. The day I asked you to be mine, forever was years ago now.
We were still young and innocent and the cruel world hadn't left its mark on us yet. We were living in a fantasy world where the thought of being separated never even crossed our minds.
We were naive, that's what makes our situation so bad. We didn't see it coming so weren't prepared. We let our guards down letting the darkness charge in. We were too lost in our isolation from the real world to realise that life isn't a fairytale.
But the day I proposed was a fairytale. Right down to the red rose that you wore in your hair to the glass slippers only a week prior I had tried to persuade you not to buy, of course you were to stubborn and said 'Cinderella had them so why can't I?'
That's one of the many things I love about you Clara. The way if someone saw you walking down the street they would presume that you followed the crowd and did what people say, but really that is just a clever mask for what is within.
Within you are strong and confident but only let it show when completely necessary. Like when the love of your life doesn't agree with your fashion choices.
But this is all besides the point, it was the summer of 2017, I was beginning to get on with your parents and my parents had already started referring to you as their daughter.
The wind was warm on the clear night I popped the question. And you guessed it, the moon was shining full as ever.
The stars also twinkled that night, the same way your eyes twinkled when you laughed.
Everything was perfect and something out of a movie. I don't know whether it actually was though, for all I know it could have been a shit show and I was blinded by my happiness that day.
But the look in your eyes, the look of pure happiness mixed with tears, told me I had done it just right. You were mine forever, and I was ecstatic about it.
Flashback - Summer 2017
"Come on Clara, are you ready?" I asked pounding at the bathroom door that had been shut for two hours.
"Almost, what's the rush anyway?" Clara shouted back over the rustling of makeup and hair brushes.
"I am just eager to talk to you." I lied but she bought it, I think anyway.
The door swung open revealing Clara, an angel in disguise. Perfection.
"Shut your mouth you pervert!" Clara laughed as I realised I had been starring at her for a while.
"You have them bloody shoes on." I chuckled as I looked down at the glass slipper replicas.
"Off course I do, they cost a lot of money and I am a princess after all." She giggled as I took her hand and we walked out of the little flat.
"So princess, is that a real flower in your hair?" I asked as we walked in the moonlight.
"Off course and only the finest since I am royalty. They were supplied by your mother actually." Clara continued to play along as she absent mindedly messed with the red rose in her hair.
Everything complemented her so perfectly and just enhanced her already natural beauty.
We carried on walking for another two minutes, I had the whole night planned.
A carriage ride around the peer, a picnic on the beach and then finally the question that could either start a new chapter in this love story or end it completely.
"Wow!" Clara gasped as we stood in front of our carriage.
She had been in a bit of a Disney faze recently so I hired a carriage that looked the most like Cinderella's.
"I know right, you now have the carriage to match the shoes." I laughed as I held open the little door and helped her up the step.
The whole carriage ride was filled with Clara's gasps as she pointed out the little things along the peer that looked even nicer at nighttime.
Like the fairy lights that lined the paths to the ferris weal that was now shining blue.
Once the carriage ride was over we stepped out again and walked down to where the sand starts.
"Sorry Princess, you might want to remove your slippers!" I laughed as her face frowned playfully and I slipped of my trainers.
We ran down the beach in the moonlight, laughing and chasing each other with seaweed that had washed up from the shaw.
"Come on let's sit down." I gasped finally out of breath and damp from the seaweed that had been chucked at me.
"Ha! I win!" Clara cheered as we sat down on the picnic blanket.
we ate the food I had packed and drank the wine. We ate until everything was gone and stared out at the still sea.
It was like the world had stopped and we were the only two people left, curled up in each other's arms and looking up at the moon.
The moon smiled down at us casting light for us too see.
"Clara, can I ask you something?" I asked as she hummed and lifted her head up from where it had been placed on my chest.
"Of course Theo." She smiled as we sat up and I got lost in her eyes.
"Well it is quite a big question." I laughed nervously scooting around.
"Oh do spit it out Theo, it can't be that big." Clara nudged.
I made her stand up which she did with a look of confusion and then I bent down on one knee.
Everything was silent, even the cars went quite and we were in our own little bubble.
"Clara, the day I met you was Halloween. I had gone to Tommy's stupid party last minute only because I felt bad for him but it ended up being the greatest decision I ever made. I met you. You were an angel shining brightly under the moonlight and I fell in love with you as soon as our eyes connected. The way you say my name, the way your nose scrunches when you laugh. I love everything, even the things you don't love like your insecurities. In my eyes Clara White you are perfect and I can't think of any other way I would want to spend my life then with you." I said as Clara cried silently tears and beamed down at me.
"Will you marry me?" I asked as she squealed and pulled me to my feet.
She then pounced on me still squealing as I swung her around.
"Yes!" She cheered as we kissed under the moonlight.
Back to present/letter
The night I asked you to be mine forever was truly magical. I meant everything I said that night and when I am sad all I have to do it venture back to the memory of your happy face shining in the moonlight.
I will love you until the end
Love always, Theo.
