BARBARA'S STORY

October.

October is the best month ever. We study in the library every day, drama-free.

We may have our own band. We thought about calling it "The Lefties" or "The Four Lefties", since we're all lefties. Patt plays the saxophone, bro plays the electric piano, Shortcake plays the violin and I sing. We've been doing this all October at Patt's instead of bro's, now.

Since Monday, October 8th.

Matt starts spending more time with Patt and bro, besides meeting them in Lunch C, every Thursdays and Fridays, right after band practice and doing homework. While they have their Three Stooges moments, Shortcake and I have our own girl times on those days at my house, before my choir practices on Thursdays and my dance rehearsals on Fridays.

Thursday, October 18th.

This afternoon.

I see Goldilocks's poppa getting arrested for years of child abuse. I'm sitting in the school bus while my crew are at band practice. Goldilocks cries and Robyn's there for her, comforting her. Robyn called the police for her, once she saw Goldilocks get into a physical altercation with her poppa at the parking lot. It was so sad to see.

Friday, October 19th.

This morning.

"Patricia will be moving in with Robyn after school, so she can stay closer to Robyn and the rest of her friends," Patt tells the whole crew and some of the band members in Lunch B.

This afternoon.

Patt tells bro, Shortcake and me why Matt doesn't mess with Goldilocks, anymore. It was because Matt overheard her saying real awful things about him, on that day we saw them having an argument. I thought it was because of me and her jealousy taken over. I know Robyn secretly be telling Patt these things via Messenger. Matt said so, mostly at me...

Friday, October 26th.

This morning.

Matt asks me to homecoming, but I decline. That's how I find out about homecoming happening tonight. I know he did this to be nice, no longer worrying about Goldilocks. I know how awkward it'll be if we go together. Every time Matt and I speak to each other, everybody stares and whispers about us. The crew just stares, wondering if we're a thing or not.

I ask the crew if any of them are going. They all say no.

"How come?" I ask, curious.

"I'm not into dances," Patt says.

"No one would go with me. I asked every girl here and they all burned me down," bro sadly says.

"I hate it here. I only do their band and orchestra because I love playing the violin, and the choir because I love to sing," Shortcake says.

"I don't plan on going to prom, either," Patt says.

"I would only go if only I don't get shut down, again," bro says.

"I might go to prom with one of the guys in the mafia crew, maybe Zhang," Shortcake says.

I guess there really isn't any chemistry between bro and Shortcake after all. Momma wants me to go to prom for years. I'll have to wait for next year or ask a junior or senior. Sadly, Terrell ain't it.

This afternoon.

We have a pep rally for basketball season in the gym after Lunch C and fourth period for two hours (12:30 to 2:30PM). It's free for everybody. I sit with Chastity while seeing my crew as the band of the show. They're still looking and sounding real good. We see Brandon and Young Boy Kory flexing on the floor, and we all cheer them on. Because it's Friday and the pep rally's taking over both fifth and sixth period, I cancel my shrink session with Dr. Florence, and she joins with Mr. Lawrence near the double doors.
