WAKING UP IN an unfamiliar place was disconcerting, but the smell of coffee was a nice comfort.

Lou stared at the ceiling for a few moments, unsure of where she was until she remembered. She'd slept at Benny's place.

It had seemed like a logical decision at the time, Lou didn't want to make the trek back home at such a late hour, and Benny's place was close to the bar, but now that she was well-rested and the sun was out, she regretted her actions a bit.

The air mattress was a bit stiff, and having slept on the ground made it a bit hard to get up. The shirt she'd borrowed from Benny reached her mid-thigh, so she'd felt comfortable wearing it as a nightdress, but Lou was feeling a little self-conscious as she stood in the living room in the daylight.

Benny was standing with his back to her, and Lou could see he was preparing a jar of coffee, which was very much appreciated by Lou.

He turned his head to look at her and waved a hand. "Mornin'."

Lou approached him, tying her tangled mess of bed hair into a low ponytail with the rubber that rarely left her left wrist. "Good morning."

She stopped next to Benny, only then realizing that he was wearing jeans and no shirt, only a silk floral robe covering his upper body, leaving the front of his torse exposed. The choice of clothing, or rather lack thereof, and the fact she was faced first thing in the morning with a bare-chested man, surprised Lou. It was complete one-eighty from the style he'd so far presented, and it was amusing, even if she became flustered at the sight of his slight body.

"Nice robe," she mused, a tint of teasing in her voice. She needed to say something to focus her attention on anything other than what touching his chest would feel like.

"Want one? I have a spare," he teased right back, and Lou found herself tempted to say yes.

"As I said, not everyone can pull off whatever it is you have going on."

Benny chuckled as he filled two cups of coffee, gesturing to the sugar and cream so she could choose what to put in hers. "I'll take that as a compliment."

Lou put a quarter cup of creamer in her mug, along with one sugar cube, before stirring. While doing so, noticed Benny took his coffee black with two sugar cubes.

"Do you have anything I can cook for breakfast?" She inquired as Benny sat down on the kitchen table, a chess magazine open in front of him. It was probably his version of checking the morning paper.

"Eggs are in the fridge."

"What about milk and flour? And sugar?"

Benny turned to stare at her. "What are you making?"
