Head knight Jackson Winters🌨

First, a short Message
(Happy Independence Day for Finland 🇫🇮- hyvää itsenäisyyspäivää 🇫🇮)

It's finally December 6th, a forth left until Christmas. Today was a weird day, let me tell you all about it...

The first weird thing that happened, came first thing in the morning. At 5.00 o clock, a court advisor burst into the head knights dorm and screamed at us to get up. Even though we had just woken up, we were ready for battle in just a few seconds. But battle? What battle could there possibly be?

I ran outside from the barracks with the rest of the head knights and some other soldiers. A bunch of knights and soldiers were running around to prepare everything, and you could barely recognize anyone because of the big crowd. A bad feeling creeped up in my chest. Were everybody okay? Were my friends okay?

It was a terrible snowstorm outside, just like yesterday. It was still extremely dark, and no candles or other lights were lit. We could barely see in front of our faces, but the staff kept giving us a bunch of weapons and armor.

"Move, move!"

Even though I was a head knight, I had no idea what was going on. I knew I had to take charge though, but I couldn't even find the general or any other head knight in the chaos of soldiers and snow in my face. Ah, the snow was piercing my skin with how fast it was going, so I had to blink rapidly.

With full winter armor on and two swords in my belt, I tried my best to order and help the people around me as I walked towards my horse. Never before had I seen such chaos in the palace, I didn't even know so many people lived here. They pushed past me or ran up to me and begged me to tell them what was going on, or where to go. Desperately I advised them to gather at one spot, and be ready with their horses and weapons.

"Head knight Jackson! Get over here!"
The general suddenly appeared in front of me. With full armor on, he looked at me with a serious expression.

"Get your horse knight, I want you and my daughter to lead the royal escape troops"

Escape troops? So were we really under attack?!

"Yes sir!"
I grabbed my horse and seated myself on his back. With a short word he started running away, past the crowd of horses and knights and soldiers. Outside the knights grounds many staffs and royal people were hurried into carriages and on horses to quickly get out of there. I didn't see any enemies, even though my sight of vision was low because of the heavy snowfall. So much for a peaceful Christmas, am I right?

The general pointed to where the royal escape troops would be standing. I knew he meant in that general direction, so I would just have to ride that way and hope it'll lead to them. I wondered which royals I would be helping escape, the whole family or just a few?

Even though I usually enjoy riding, the snow piercing my skin made it hard to have fun. I could barely open my eyes.

"Jackson! Over here!"
Mina yelled over the other people. I spotted her on her white horse, surrounded by several soldiers and a few members of staff.

"Who are we taking?"

Mina pointed vaguely towards a small group of people a few meters away, wearing blue coats.
"Princess Amalia, The crown prince and lady Daisy. We also have three members of staff, twenty soldiers and a court advisor, it's Zyr"

My heart jumped at the mention of Clearblue and my friends. At least this way I would know that they are safe, right?

"Should I take charge?"
My breath comes out as foggy because of the biting cold.

"Sure, I'll take over later"

I nod and ride into the center of the group of people. They stop talking when I whistle and look at me.

"Alright! I'm head knight Jackson Winters! Me and Mina Sword will lead this troop, Okay? I want the royals in the middle, the soldiers surrounding us and the members of staff behind the royals! I'll lead and you'll follow, no exceptions unless I say so! Any questions?"

"Yeah, where are we heading sir?"
One of the soldiers ask.

I don't even get to answer that question, which is good because I don't know, before Zyr rides up to the middle. He gives me a tired smile and then turns to the others.

"I'm royal court advisor Zyris Rosen. I'll be in charge of the locations and the protocol, as a soldier all you have to worry about is the safety of the royals and staffs"

After talking he turns to me and lowers his voice.

"I'll ride next to you, and give the directions"

I nod.

"Any other questions before we have to leave?"

Nobody says anything so I turn my horse and ride up to the front. The group slowly moves into their respective positions. With the royals in the middle and the soldiers around them. Prince Clearblue rides right behind me, because he is the crown prince. Zyr rides next to me and Mina goes to the back, making sure nobody falls behind.

"Alright lets start moving! We keep riding until I say we stop! Let's go!"

I start to ride at full speed, and in just a few seconds the rest catch up. At that moment I realized just how weird things had gotten, in just a few minutes. It truly was a Christmas of surprises.
