Protect myself

You rested against the well, head buried in your arms. Eyes swollen from crying over how you couldn't get rid of the overflowing love you felt for the dog demon.

You wanted so badly to be back in your own body. You imagined Kagome wanted the same thing, the way she looked at Inuyasha with longing on your features was disgusting. Would you do that too?

You scoffed and wiped the thought from your mind and continued to wallow until you heard footsteps. You dreaded it might be Inuyasha so you kept your head down. "(Y/n)." It was the sound of your voice. Kagome.

You stared up into (e/c) eyes, she bit her lip. "I see why your avoiding everyone...You look terrible."

"Gee thanks for making me feel better."

She sighed and plopped down beside you, suddenly putting her arm around you and bringing you into a hug.

"What are you doing?"

Kagome felt you flinch at the unfamiliar contact. This made her own heart break, "how long were you alone?"

"What are you talking about?"

She hugged you tighter, "I mean how long were you alone in that place? Did you have anybody? Or any love before tha?"

"I...why are you asking me this?"

"Because you're in love with Inuyasha right? I can see it and its eating away at you, you've never dealt with feelings of love."

You felt the urge to cry again, "you're right but why aren't you mad or jealous?" Your bottom lip was beginning to wobble.

"How could I be mad when you are my friend? When all this is hurting you? You acted out on Inuyasha and now he thinks I hate him but...it's ok I understand."

You bawled as you wrapped your arms around her too. Kagome began to cry too, "please don't shut me out I refuse to let you deal with this alone. I won't let things go back to normal I'll still be your friend. You can lean on me."

<> - Earlier
Inuyasha had a solemn expression and wouldn't talk to anyone after the ordeal with Kikyo. Not everyone was happy with him either though, but he had to voice his thoughts.

"Guys I think Kagome hates me and she has for awhile." When he said it out loud it didn't make sense, why would she hate him if she seemed so genuinely happy most of the time? Though lately she's been more guarded then usual.

Sango played with Kirara, "It wouldn't surprise me, you did run after Kikyo."

Miroku nodded. "A woman's feelings are hurt for a reason."

The school girl spoke, "this is the first I'm hearing of this."

His ears flattened to his scalp, "she said she should have stayed hating me and not to touch her, speak to her and stay away..."

All three blinked shocked, Miroku's brow furrowed. "That doesn't sound like something Kagome would say."

Shippo added in his opinion, "not at all Kagome is kind, that's more along (Y/n)'s route. No offence (Y/n)."

The school smiled nervously, "none taken." She stopped smiling when Inuyasha's gaze was locked onto, the gears in his brain obviously working overtime. Then he tore his eyes away from her direction, "yeah...your right."

Shippo looked on in confusion, "Inuyasha?"

Kagome lifted herself up and put on a stern face, "I'm going to find Kagome and give her a talking to." God it was weird saying her own name this way, was she doing a good impression of you?

Sango seemed worried, "eh...I don't think that's a good idea (Y/n)." But she was off before the demon slayer could say anymore.

<> - Present
You and Kagome hugged for good whole minute before separating. "Thank you Kagome." You said as you wiped away a stray tear.

The school girl smiled, "I'm glad I could be of help." Things were still a mess, sure you were more open with Kagome but you still blocked Inuyasha from getting in.

Now you and her stood up and walked to the hut arms looped together. But either of you didn't even take 10 steps before Inuyasha came your way. You made to bolt but this was why Kagome had looped her and with yours.

"Did you call him over here?!"

"No I didn't. But you should talk to him."

"I'd rather eat shit!"

She unlooped your arms and made her way over to the hut while you awkwardly waited for him to come to you.

He stood just in front of you and said nothing for a moment. "Kagome..." that word made the anger reignite in your veins.

You couldn't give two shuts about acting like her. "D-do you really hate me? I mean before all this?"

You clenched your hands into fists, "yes...you are a two-timing dog."

He reached out a hand but you slapped his hand away, anger flaring in your eyes while his held shock.

"I said not to touch me you mutt! Do you not listen or are you stupid?! I want to hate you but I really hate-" you clamped your mouth shut before you said anything else.

He tried to wrench your hand away from mouth. "You hate what?! What do you hate?!"

"Just get away!"

You tried to run away but he grabbed you from behind. "No ever since you two came back from the cave you've been strange. Tell me what's going on!"

You struggled against him, "please just let me go!"

"No!"

"You are so annoying! Can't you listen to someone with that stupid brain of yours!"

Then you managed to kick him away and run into the forest. He growled and followed. Kagome watched on realising this would go pear shaped.
