Veronica cannot fathom what had been overcoming her as of late. She only knows a lot of it is deeply rooted in a strong crisis of identity. Guilt, resentment, lust, hate, pity, pride, love. All emotions turning inside her and festering into a ball of misery. Hearing Jughead talk to his friends about his memory loss and their questions about her and Archie is like a slap to the face. There is nothing left between her and Jughead if he can't even remember it and everything is better that way. She's a wreck. A wreck that she managed to wrap Archie in but refuses to wrap Jughead in if she can avoid it. She's already about to help destroy his home, the least she can do is leave his heart out of it. She takes quick steps back from the room. She hadn't meant to eavesdrop, but Toni's questions had stopped her in her tracks. Hearing the voice she had missed so much had glued her to the spot, but she needs to leave now.
"So what do you remember?" Toni's voice had travelled to her in the hallway and she found she badly wanted to know that answer as well. Especially after Betty had called her crying about how Jughead didn't remember what she did to him, and she hadn't known how or when to tell him.
"Nothing." Sweet Pea and Fangs answer together bringing her out of her thoughts about Betty's call. She wanted to know if he had forgotten about the time they spent physically and emotionally entangled.
"It hurts when I try. I had all these weird dreams, most of them nightmarish. But if I try to remember them in detail or anything about the accident my head starts pounding."
"Yeah he caught a wicked nosebleed out in the hallway. I asked him why the Lodge chick spent the night at his trailer. Looked like he was gonna catch a seizure." She heard Sweet Pea tell them and her heart drops to the floor. There goes her secret. The serpents know, soon Betty and Archie will too. She needs to take control of the narrative.
"The doctors said it will probably come back in time you had a concussion and a serious brain injury. Don't force it Jones."
"Yeah, Yeah." Says Jughead in a dismissing tone.
"Jughead I'm serious. This war with the Lodges? Whatever the fuck is going on with you, Veronica and Archie. Leave it all alone or I will intervene, and it will not be in any of your best interest." Toni tells Jughead firmly and Veronica recalls the drunken image of Sweet Pea glaring at her as Toni rushes to check on Jughead. She knows she'll never be welcome amongst them , not truly. Especially after the proverbial shit hits the fan with her father's upcoming plans for their home. She is ,rightfully so, the enemy.
Veronica's legs carry her backwards on their own as her mind begins running through all of her options on how to move forward. She sends a group text to Archie and Betty telling them they need to have an important conversation. She cannot let the Serpents be the ones to blow this all up. Her secrets won't last long enough to follow her to the grave, and she's not even sure she cares enough anymore. It's time to lay to bed the night they all refuse to mention. Archie's reply of 'Pops' and Betty's subsequent reply of 'On my way' send Veronica sliding into the town car telling Andre "Pops diner, please."
