Carl's POV:
After the death of Beth, nobody has been the same anymore. To be honest, I kind of had a small crush on her. I mean how could I not? She was like the perfect mother! She knew how to care for a baby and she was gorgeous! Now she's gone. Maggie takes care of my baby sister, Judith, now but she won't eat or talk to anybody besides Glenn. Daryl just sits there talking about how they survived together after the prison attack, and Noah explains what went down back at the hospital.
I miss her a lot, but my dad once told me that people are gonna die, and we have to be ready for it. I guess that's why he's the leader of the group. His wise words and choices have kept us alive this long, nobody has ever doubted him.
We drove the firetruck and an extra car away from the hospital the next morning. Now we're just sitting here in a small fire camp to the side of the rode. As I sit on the grass with the others, I try to shake off the thought of her. "CARL!" I hear my dad shout from a distance. I jump up as I snap back to reality," Yea?" I reply. "I need you to go out on a run with me and Daryl. You in?" He asks. "Sure dad. Whatever."
As I stand up and walk away, I notice from the corner of my eye that everyone looks at me. I'm just the kid in the group. I may be fifteen but I'm a great shot! As a matter of fact, I'm so great I saved my father a long time ago after the prison attack! Who are they to judge me?
"Wait!" Shouts Abraham before we board the truck," take the uhh -take the car" he uttered. "It will be much more easier and faster to drive." Daryl nods at my dad as we switch cars, and he in his motorcycle. Dad starts the engine and we take off. "God bless you!" Cries father Gabriel as we leave.
I look out the window," so what are we looking for?" I ask my dad. He sighs and says," We're looking for any signs of shelter. Michonne said the church was overrunned and we gotta look for somewhere to stay." We're starting to live like Nomads now, always moving somewhere. As I reminisce to myself the car comes to a sudden stop.
"What happened Daryl??" He calls out. Daryl approaches my dad with his motorcycle," survivors ahead of us. Do we kill 'em or what? If they see us they're gonna wanna join us and we're already running low on sources." I couldn't help but butt in.
" Dad I know you've always made the choices around here and it's the reason we're still alive." I explain," but you have to start giving people a chance! If that were us you'd want them to recruit us!" My dad stops to think for a moment," Alright son. Let's move!" He says. As we near the survivors they immediately look up.
We get out of the car and come close to them. In front of us was a tall man with brown eyes and short brown hair. Adjacent to him, was a girl with long brown hair holding a Ginger baby in her arms. You can already tell that they too have a long story to tell.
"My name is Rick Grimes. This is Daryl Dixon and my son Carl" dad announces. The mans eyes soften as he speaks," please we mean no harm. My name's Henry Patcher, this is my daughter Lindsey, and my five month old daughter Brenda. We're survivors just like you. We need a place to stay, do you have a camp?" My dad looks at Daryl and begins the process.
"How many walkers have you killed?"
"Twelve dozens.... May-maybe more. I'm not totally sure though. Some die others get right back up later."
"How many people have you killed?"
"None yet. If.... If we did ever kill someone. They would have been a threat to us or something, I don't know"
"Why?"
"I have the same goals as you man. To protect our family."
Dad glances at me and then the helpless family. "Alright, you can come with us. Just lettin you know we don't have a permanent shelter. For now, we're moving from place to place, but we know how to survive." He states. " Now if you try anything stupid. I'll make sure it's the last thing you do!"
