The Stranger's Point of View
It would be a lie if he said he hadn't noticed her before. Her poster was plastered to every media stand and news outlet around the city. She was the well sought after Legend that joined the games months prior but had yet to make a non-televised appearance, until now. He had seen her on television just hours ago and now he was laying eyes on her in person. She was the newest Legend of the televised battle royale, Apex Legends. He was just amazed that he was sitting in the same bar as her.
He was so impressed that she won a one-on-one battle against such a revered Legend and that she had even managed to get her teammates back before winning. "Yep. She is a certified badass." He eyed her long, reddish brown hair as he finished off his drink. Almost getting caught staring, he quickly turned away hoping that she didn't see him. Really, he just wanted to talk to her and touch her and do unspeakable things to her. "So many unspeakable things..." His mind raced.
By the time that he was out of his own head he noticed that the bar was starting to clear out. He had been working up the courage to talk to her, but she was out with her friends, and he didn't want to seem like a fan boy, and he feared crippling rejection; it absolutely terrified him. "What would I even say to her? Hey, I saw you on TV. Do you wanna come hang out at my place so that I can do unspeakable things to you? Nope, I definitely can't say that to her." He gave her one more glance but this time his gaze had more of a longing to it. He paid her tab as he paid his own and left the bar.
A gentle wisp of cool air greeted him as he stepped outside of the stifling hot bar known as Drunk Nessie. It was a welcome change, and he felt as though he could breathe again. He couldn't tell if it was the bar or if it was her that was making it so difficult for him to breathe. Foolishly he thought getting some air would clear his head, but it did nothing at all. Although it was a nice night out, he really wasn't looking forward to going home alone again, but what other choice did he have.
He began his walk of shame towards his apartment. He was walking home alone again from the bar. This was the story of his life, loneliness. He strolled about a block or so away from the bar and just stood there. The distant glow of stars in the night sky caught his eye, providing some distraction to his current dilemma. "I just don't want to go home yet." Thoughts of her left a whispering linger in the back of his mind.
The stars glittered across the night sky, some snubbed out from the light pollution rising from the skyline of the city. Then, out of nowhere he wondered if he should have drank more liquor. "I am not even buzzed." He sighed in disbelief, at least if he had a buzz, he could walk home without feeling as terrible as he did. He mentally cursed his poor decision-making skills.
If it were any other woman, then she would have been harassing him at the bar. That's how it was supposed to work, but not this time because she was not just any other woman. She was special, she was beautiful, and he still wanted to do unspeakable things to her. "Bingo!" His voice shot out to no one except for himself. He was not going to waste this opportunity. He was going to go back to the bar and stalk her like any other guy would do. He quickly turned around but he was stopped right in his tracks with a THUD.
Instinctively he grabbed onto whoever he just ran into, or who ran into him, and pulled them up. He realized that he had pulled this person up way too fast when they immediately faceplanted into his chest. The prolonged period of time the person spent with their face against his chest was making him feel a little uncomfortable. "Are they sniffing my chest now? Okay, this is getting weird... even for me." When the person started to stand up and pull their face from his chest, he could faintly smell hints of vanilla and lavender underneath the permeating alcohol and stagnant bar odor. Paralysis immediately overtook his body as he stood there frozen.
