the wind blew ferociously outside, raindrops falling from the sky like the start of a hurricane. the smell of freshly cut grass and rain water mixed together in the air as if they were performing a dance together on the beautiful scenery. jimin imagined this moment many times, his first step back out into the real world. into freedom.
he imagined the birds would be chirping their playful songs and the sun would be beating down on him like a warm embrace to a long-missed friend. in his head the trees swayed in the soft cool wind on the hot summer day and children ran around laughing and playing while they were on their breaks from school, having the times of their lives.
though he was greeted with a very lonely gray sky crying tears of despair on the secluded area the institution was around, not a home or person to be found even remotely close to the big area of the hospital, jimin felt just as good. just as relieved to be out.
he took a moment to notice and appreciate all the colors surrounding him. beautiful evergreen trees, bright pools of crystal blue water on the gray cement beneath his feet matching the dull sky. it was so nice. just seeing something other than the haunting white filling the building behind him made him feel as if he were colorblind, seeing the different shades and hues for the first time in his life today. he almost forgot what some colors looked like other than the occasional red jungkook greeted him with on his persistent visits.
"jimin!"
the blonde haired male whipped back, already starting to get drenched in the rain he was letting freely pour down on himself. at first he wasn't too sure if it was one of the shadows or not, but a mop of gray hair exited the big black doors behind him he had just escaped from. he watched as a man ran up to him looking out of breath and discomforted.
"i thought you already left." taehyung panted out, doubling over to try and catch his breath.
"i'm going now." jimin switched his gaze to the open road ahead of him.
taehyung looked so troubled that he felt the need to hear the therapist out, even if he didn't want to. jimin thought he at least owed him that. even if he hated everyone at this facility, this man was the only one who ever stood up for him. it didn't get rid of the bad feelings jimin had for him of course, that he had for everybody, but he felt obligated to listen since he would never see him again.
"i just want to say i'm sorry we failed you" the man straightened out his stance after refilling his lungs with enough air to actually conversate. "i really wish you would come back in with me and tell them you want to stay under supervision awhile longer. i think if you just give us all some more time with you we can really figure out a solution for you, jimin. the other workers are starting to see what's going on with you is real and we can do something to stop this, or at least get this under control. if you just stay a bit longer-"
"i'm not staying. there's nothing wrong with me." jimin once again lied through his teeth, eyes never breaking their contact with the therapist even as at least a dozen figures stepped closer to hear in his peripherals.
"you and i both know that isn't true! you're scared and hopeless and i get that, but we can help you. let us help you, please. you need help."
the pleading eyes were so genuine the teenager almost found himself considering it. the dark figures whispered around them, cutting into the seriousness of the conversation with laughs or scoffs. they were like a constant audience in jimin's life, always giving their reactions and inputs without hesitation or care. it made it hard for him to ever form his own opinions during times like these, the joking atmosphere making it feel not as intense as it was supposed to be.
"i'm the only one that can help me." jimin spoke firmly, looking away as taehyung's expression changed to sadness.
"well i hope you can, jimin. you're not going to be able to go on like this for long."
i know.
before the grey haired therapist could say anything more, the young blonde started walking off into the storm, leaving him to stare back at his disappearing figure before finally accepting the fact that it was over. there was no way this kid was going to make it in this world in his current condition. he just felt bad. bad they didn't give him the treatment he needed before he was gone.
kim taehyung had no doubts he would one day hear news that park jimin had attempted suicide once again. whether he lived or not was up to fate. there was nothing he could do about that, but it still hurt his heart knowing it was inevitable.
little did the therapist know, that day was coming so much sooner than he would be ready for.
