Izuku Midoriya was at the hospital, waiting. He recently got a call that his mother was in an accident. As soon as he heard, he rushed to the hospital with all his speed.
"Mr. Midoriya?" The green haired boy looked up to see the doctor. "You can now come see her." Izuku stood up and walked into the room.
He was met with Inko Midoriya, his mother, lying on a hospital bed, terribly injured.
"Mom?" The middle aged woman slightly opened up her eyes to see her beloved son. "Izuku." "Yeah. It's me, mom." Izuku tried the best he could to hold back tears.
"Izuku." "Yeah?" Inko placed her hand on her son's. "I might not make it." Izuku was shocked. "What?" "The doctors said that my injuries were too severe. I don't have much time." "No! I refuse to believe it! You can't die! You can't leave me!" Inko put a hand on Izuku's cheek. "Izuku, promise me. Promise me that no matter what happens, you will still keep fighting. That you will make your dreams come true. I know that you will become a great hero."
All the tears Izuku was holding back began to break free, and fell down his face.Izuku wasn't the same after that day. Knowing his mother was moments away from death, there was no reason for him to smile.
"Hey, Deku?"
Izuku looked up to see Ochako Uraraka. His best friend. The girl he was in love with.
"If there's anything I can do to help, just ask, okay?" Izuku just remained silent.
He isolated himself from the world. From everyone. He was failing his classes because of his lack of focus.
But can one really focus on something when you know that someone you love is drawing closer to death? It was the middle of the night. Izuku went out for a walk to clear his head.
The streets were silent and empty. It was just Izuku.
He arrived at the local park. Once he reached a bench, he broke down. He plopped down on the seat, and cried his heart out.
"Why am I so pathetic! I promised mom! I promised that I'd stay strong! But I'm weak! Weak!"
"You don't have to be", came a reply.
Izuku looked around, searching for the source of the voice, before seeing a shadowy figure approach him. Once he was closer, Izuku could see it was a man."Oh, um, sorry. You must feel pretty awkward. Seeing a man cry."
The stranger walked closer and put a hand in Izuku's shoulder.
"Not at all. Considering what you're crying about. Your mother, correct?"
Izuku jumped up, keeping his guard up. "How do you know that?" The man smiled. "I know a lot of things. Including how to ensure her survival." Izuku dropped his guard down a bit. "How?" "That's for me to know. All you have to do is give me something in return."
Izuku was hesitant, but reluctantly played along. "Okay. What do you want?" The man walked closer and stared at Izuku.
"Your soul."
Silence was in the air, until Izuku chuckled. "I should have known. This is all just a big joke."
"This is no joke, Izuku Midoriya."
Izuku went silent.
"How do you know my name?"
"Like I said, I know many things. Now, do we have deal?"
Izuku was reluctant, but decided to see how this stranger was going to 'take his soul' exactly. "Fine. I accept. My mother's life in exchange for my soul."
The man took out a strange looking scroll. Izuku opened it, feeling his finger get pricked. "Ow!"
As he pulled away, a drop of blood fell onto the paper. The strange man smiled, his eyes glowing menacingly. "Pleasure doing business with you, Mr Midoriya."
Izuku looked at the man, only to see there was no one there. The next day, Izuku rose up from a bed. He looked around. He realized he was in his room.
"Was last night all a dream?"
Izuku got dressed, then heard his phone ring. He picked up the device and answered. "Hello?"
"Hello? Is this Izuku Midoriya?"
"Yes, this is him."
"Perfect."
"Pardon?"
"Fantastic news, Mr Midoriya. Your mother has made a full recovery!"
Izuku was left speechless and nearly dropped his phone.
"A-are you sure?"
"Yes! We are!"
Izuku ran out the room and went straight to the hospital. The door swung open. Inko looked at it to see her son stand there, out of breath.
"Mom?" Inko smiled, opening her arms to offer a hug. He complied, and Izuku hugged his beloved mother. The rest of the day was normal. The news of Inko Midoriya's recovery spread like wildfire among her friends and family.
Class 1A were happy that their green haired classmate was back to his usual self.
Izuku was training again after so long. Now that he was happy again, he had a lot of catching up to do.
"Did you like my gift?" Izuku turned around, getting in a defensive pose, and saw the strange man from the day before. "Oh. It's you." He put down his defenses. "Thank you. I don't know what you did, but thank you. I don't know how I could ever repay you."
The man smiled. "You already did, Izuku Midoriya. You repaid me with your soul."
Izuku gave a confused look. "My soul?"
"Midoriya, you are now something far beyond human. You are now my bounty hunter."
Izuku laughed awkwardly. "O-okay, you can stop with the jokes."
"I'm not joking. I believe I've never told you my name, have I?" The man walked closer, close enough for Izuku to see a glow in his eyes.
"It's Mephisto."
Izuku slowly walked backwards, scared for his life.
"Remember, my boy. Whenever it's night, and you are near an evil soul, you're new power will awaken, and the spirit of Zarathos will ride again."
And after that, the man known as Mephisto, was gone.It was on that night, that Izuku Midoriya's life changed forever.
