Space Between Us

The twinkle in his eyes when I approach him
The sadness in his words when I departure
It was convenient to not touch butterflies but I touch them anyway
My belly jumps when I watch him smiling to the roses
Wearing his favorite shirt and getting annoyed for the hundredth time

My doll house is breaking down by the attack of self conscious fireflies
How politely I am making a boundary of crippling sadness
On his tip toes whenever I ignore the gentle boy
Space between us is like moon and river
Far but the reflection is close as the throat
