Arinas POV:
The winter holidays passed by quite quickly. With us being home for most of the time, the three weeks of break were quite boring. But at least I spent a lot of time with Mirai, watching movies on her bed until the late hours and then falling asleep in her arms. We drank hot chocolate and ate sweets almost everyday which boosted my mood quite a bit.But at the same time I also wondered.
In the cold weather, where the hell did my mum stay? Was she working with someone? Was she sleeping in the streets? Is she-
Is she dead?
I shook my head and went back to reading the book in my lap, one that Mirais mum recommended to me. The story was about a girl left alone in the winter time, that ends up finding friends in unlikely places and even finds out that she has a magical power.
It was interesting so far.
Mirai walked in our room at one point and sat next to me, leaning her head on my shoulder, "What are you reading?", she asked, her hand taking one of my own.
I showed her the cover, before taking my bookmark and leaving it in-between the pages, before closing it on my lap, "Did your mum go to work yet?"
She nodded, snuggling into my side.
I smiled, combing through her hair with my fingers. We sat like that for a while. It was peaceful. Lovely.

When school started up again, I felt a lot better than before. With all the resting and self-reflection that I did during break helped me feel a lot better about my life. The police still haven't found any signs of my mum, but that was okay for now.
I think.
At lunch, Mirai and I decided to spend some time outside the school. At the bench at the back of the school, we sat and talked about random things, just enjoying the sunny day, trying to take our minds of things.
"I'm telling you, they are out to get me." ,I stated, giggling a bit.
Mirai stayed quiet, resting her head on my lap.
I smiled and ran my fingers through her hair, making her stir a bit, "Mirai?
"Yeah?", she asked quietly, her voice a bit hoarse.
"Lunch period is almost over."
Mirai sighed, her eyes fluttering open, a smirk on her face. Suddenly she sat up quickly, locking her lips with mine.
I flinched, my eyes wide, "You startled me!"
She smiled, taking my hand into hers, "You should stop being so jumpy."
I blushed, giving her hand a squeeze, "Well, maybe you should stop-"
After a moment of silence she chuckled, her eyes closing, "You don't know what to say?"
Rolling my eyes, I gestured for her to get up, "Lets just go to class."
"Can't we just chill here for another 2 minutes?", Mirai asked, as she buried her head in my neck, leaving small pecks.
I giggled and pushed her away, "We're in school, its inappropriate."
But not only that, I was a bit afraid. I mean, Blake told me that he figured it out just from looking at the two of us next to each other.
'What if someone sees us?'
Mirai pouted, "Okay..."
I sighed and gave her a quick peck on the lips, before standing up to head to class.
