To Fly Like a Dove

Sweet frigid air whisked past her nose as the two looked down to a small ravine, covered with little streams and mini waterfalls. Cotton bit her lips nervously, while Husband, Louis, grinned excitedly at the sight below.

"Do you think I can do it, Honeydew?"

   "Um, well..."

The couple had gone for a romantic picnic on the golden hilltops during the sunniest day possible. And yet, the weather had decided to show it's rear end with it's howling breeze and dry breath. Brushing strands of hair lifting from the sudden draft, her worried ocean hues glanced at the tall Knight removing his fur cloak.

Now what exactly did the silver man have in plan? Well, she wasn't quite sure either. But what she did know, was that it were to be the most reckless thing since the night he jumped off the City Gates.

Oh... Just what is this man thinking? Cotton laments. No matter how small the ravine is, he'll wound himself!

The cliff was relatively bantam, not that life threatening, but it did indeed seem like a perfect spot for one to sprain an ankle, or twist an elbow. And that was what perturbed her most.

"Oh c'mon, why the hesitation?" The silver haired man wildly smirked, his dark-aqua gaze filled with adventure.

She stutters, unable to move her wide blue eyes from his exhilarated stance. "Well, u-um, that is..."

As well trained in the art of battle her Husband is, she just wasn't sure if her man would be able to stand perfectly still on one leg while falling to the bottom. It just, well... It didn't seem like it would work!

Surveying her distressed features, he rolls his shoulders and stretched out his arms. "Don't worry!" He calls over the rainy winds. "I'll be alright, don't you fret."

Cotton made an unimpressed face. The tall Knight repeated those words so often that she's beginning to think it was the start of a catchphrase. Oh please, don't do this!! Her conscious begged the large man as he passed her his cloak. Winking at his concerned Wife with ludicrous charm, he fished out a pair of Green Sapphire earrings from his satchel. Shaped like a dove prepared to take flight, Louis hung them upon his pierced ears as he neared the edge.

Alarmed, she calls out, "A-are you seriously-- what do you think you are doing!" Dropping the artifact of clothing, she hastily ran towards her relaxed husband in a fit of uncertainty. Her heart blitzed in her chest as she grappled onto his elbow in trepidation, dragging the tall Knight away from the cliff.

The large man rubbed the back of his head, sheepishly staring down the edge with longing. "I just... Well..." He sighed with a groan. His cheeks tinged a light pink, he abashedly shifts his heels into the dirt, unable to meet his Wife's bewildered eyes. With pure honesty, he says, "I um, well... I wanted to impress you, actually."

Cotton gawked, stupefied at his explanation. To impress me? The young Wife shook herself out of her dazed form with an attempt to scramble his logic together. But why? They were Husband and Wife for Stars sakes! If anything, she was already impressed with his hard working self. So why go this far to impress her?

Heaving another sigh with a little shrug, Louis began explaining more properly to his perplexed Wife. "I was also, well, was going to test this new Enchantment too."

"Test it?" She lulls, barely grasping his concept of it all. The whole plan seemed ridiculous to her! Just listening to him had her head tiling at his words. Crossing her arms, she stood there, dumbfounded.

Louis clears his throats and taps the Enchanted Green Doves resting upon his ears, "these are supposed to help me. They allow me to fall safely, just like a feather." Narrowing her eyes, she examined the cut gem closely. If she remembered correctly, he did say some time before he ordered new tools to help buoyant his fall.

"I mean, that's what Lady Vivian said it would do." The silver haired Knight shrugs, affectionately wrapping his arms snugly around Cotton's disquieted body.

She quirked a brow, her mind humming in thought. Now, the lavender haired woman trusts Vivian. The blonde beauty is her friend, she knew the lass could make some amazing things! Even if her actions were a little suspicious at times, she knew her Enchantments were nothing to joke about.

But honestly, her Husband had some real nerves to try and fly off a cliff just to impress her. Even if it was to test something.

"Isn't there some other way to test it?" She pleads, her ocean hues gleaming a pointed look upon the tall Knight, who hummed in thought. Louis poised his large hand over his chin, his other still snug around her waist. "Hmm, perhaps. But didn't you say you wanted to see it in action?"

She did? When did she say that? Searching through every memory card floating in her brain, it dawned into her dusty mind.

Instantaneously, she was transported to the rusty old tavern in her hometown, talking to a tall and strange silver man. They were deep in converse, chatting about Enchantments and the once tiny collection he held. She remembered how interested she had been, and how impressed she was with his knowledge. Especially with the whole 'flight enhancing' ones.

As if sensing her confusion and realization, the tall man bopped her nose gently with his own, grinning from ear to ear. Cotton jumped from the sudden sweet contact and stared questionably at the man she loves. "Yes, you told me that night at the tavern years ago." He states, excitement bubbling in his tone. "You said if such an Enchantment existed, you wished to see it work."

He was right, she did wish to see it in action. But not like this! Keeping her gaze steady with his glimmering boyish ones, she sighs. Closing her blue orbs from her Husband's confident pose, the lavender haired woman sags with defeat evident in her relaxing shoulders.

   "Louis..."

   "Hmm?"

   "Please be careful."

The silver haired man leaned close and nuzzled his chin over her head. A warm smile spread over his lips at her perturbation for him. "Of course my sweet honeydew. Of course."
