*Christen's POV*
I have to admit, I have always entertained a return to competitive sports, maybe not at the level Tobin had suggested, but it was tempting. I missed the feeling of being out on a pitch, a ball at my feet and a team lined up to take me down. I guess I liked the rush, the adrenaline it gave me, I haven't found anything comparable since. Though...the rush I got from avoiding Tobin the first few weeks was almost there. Maybe that's why I stayed away for so long, I've always liked a chase, though I usually preferred to do the chasing.
Tobin had been a little more clingy than usual lately, I put it down to the fact we were 'official' in terms of labels now. Though I didn't really think labels changed anything, I guess it made us a bit more secure, but really we're still doing the same things as before.
Tobin was asleep in my lap, we had been watching the weekend news channel in our spare time, but Tobin had long since curled up on the couch and put herself in my lap. I didn't really blame her, the news was boring at the best of times, but I like to have a vague idea of what was happening around me. It was a Sunday morning ritual my family had started, every Sunday morning with a cup of coffee, or juice in the case of a younger me, we would sit together and watch the half an hour news segment before going about our day.
I missed home and its comforts sometimes, I liked being able to walk around a whole house and not bump into anyone, our room's here sometimes feel a little claustrophobic. We had plenty of things, a bed, a couch and a bathroom, but it lacked rooms and a working kitchen- the microwave didn't really cut it. Besides having the couch and the bed in the same room felt awkward at times, the view was okay from up here though.
You could look out the window on any given day and see the large expanse of mountains surrounding the area, they bordered the town on two sides like a rocky carboard box. Plus, in terms of altitude we were up high enough it snowed a fair portion of the year, and I love snow. Secretly though- I liked being able to cuddle up to Tobin every night or during the day and it was never too hot to do so.
"Christen?" Tobin whispered sleepily, opening her eyes just a crack while she hugged my thighs a little tighter.
"Yeah, baby," I answered as I pulled myself from deep within my thoughts. Tobin was still struggling to wake herself up, she had begun to rub her eyes with one of her hands that was still atop my thigh.
I watched Tobin's sleepy figure struggle for a little longer before she finally decided she was awake enough to speak. "I had a dream about dogs," she finally whispered, taking a deep breath as she stifled a yawn, "I want a dog now," she added.
"What type of dog do you want?" I asked, running my fingers through her hair as she stayed still, I wasn't entirely convinced that she hadn't fallen back asleep.
"Um..." She started, pausing to think for a moment, "Uh, a big one," She finished, drawing little circles on my leg with her fingertips.
I smiled at her response, I loved dogs so it was nice to see that she also enjoyed their company. I intended on getting at least two when I moved away from college into my own town, in saying that I'd probably end up with ten. "I want a big dog too," I answered, plaiting random strands of her hair and then undoing them as I thought.
"We could get dogs...together?" She replied, sitting herself up on her elbow in a swift motion.
I couldn't stop myself from laughing at her eagerness, "Tobi, we've been dating for a week," I watched as she pouted in response, slumping back into my lap, "We can't exactly have them here either you know," I added, running my hand in circles on her shoulder.
"It's a nice thought though," She responded, sighing deeply as she settled in to start watching the T.V. again.
"Someday maybe," I answered, though it was more to myself than her. I wonder if she'd be a good dog mum? My stomach filled with little fluttering feelings as I started to think about her raising a dog. Would she be strict with them? Or would she be lenient and give them all the treats all the time? I was a mix, we had family dogs when I was in the end of high school, I babied them all the time, but I also trained them and exercised with them so they stayed fit and strong.
