Ch. Fourteen 👑

- Tae, can I ask you a question?

Both Tae and Jungkook turn around to look at Jimin who was playing with his fingers. This last week together has been beautiful for Taehyung. They spent everyday talking and getting along the best they could. Being with Jimin is always peaceful for him. And being with Jungkook well...it's more than that.

- Sure, what is it?

- I was wondering...uhm...That day when we went out - Tae frowns, he doesn't wanna remember that day ever again - I saw an orphanage near that lake. It looked really old and the kids there were adorable! And...well...I was just thinking...you are the Prince so, why don't we send some presents and toys to the kids?! They would love that! And people would love you...

He adds that last part trying to see if Tae could make something for them remembering his old dreams of helping others. However, the answer is clear

- I'm sorry Jiminie but you know those things I should talk to father. And he won't like it. I really don't want to see him mad because of me, he had enough with Namjoon yesterday.

Tae looks down. He knows this might be important for Jimin. He always helps kids when he sees them. But he can't risk making his father mad. Not after seeing him scream at Namjoon all night after the new deal was signed the day before.
Jimin nods, a little sad he couldn't convince him. But it's Jungkook who can't take it and gets up, ready to leave.

- I need some air

That's all he says. Jimin decides to follow him just to check if he's okay and asks Tae to stay there. But after just two minutes the Young Prince can't take it and goes out looking for them. Tae tries to understand. Maybe Jungkook is frustrated about this. Maybe he should just face his father. Or do it behind his back. Maybe even ask Namjoon for help! The moment he finds them in the garden, he hears something that stops his heart.

- I don't love Tae anymore

Both Jimin and Tae stay shocked. But the second one doesn't waste another minute and leaves. Behind him, the two friends share a hug. Tae's eyes are filled with tears. He didn't know Kookie loved him before. If he did, he wouldn't have let him go. Jimin knew about his feelings. But he can't blame his friend for not saying anything. It not his place to do so.
For Tae, the heartbreak he always knew was coming is finally here. He waited for years to see him again. He tried his best to remain faithful and ignore every marriage proposal. That was stupid. It was all for nothing.

On the other side, Jungkook lets out every tear he's been saving as he hugs Jimin. He has to believe his own words. Because a Tae that won't face his father for something so small is a Tae that won't face him for falling in love with a guard. He knows they are never gonna be together. And by now, after seeing how much he changed, how he doesn't care about anything...it doesn't matter anymore. Any old feeling is now gone. Yet...knowing that...he can't understand why his heart hurts so much...

With tears that keep falling unstoppably, Tae enters the kitchen. Jin turns as soon as he hears his broken voice.

- I-I...I w-want ch-chocolate

At the end of the sentence he just sits on the flor and hugs his own legs, making Jin completely confused. He was just cleaning the dishes a minute ago and now he has a crying evil Prince on his kitchen floor. He tries to ignore him and cook some chocolate cookies but...

- Uhm sure, Prince why don't you sit here as you wait?

Jin helps Tae get up and an hour passes where the Prince cries almost silently and Jin cooks almost worried.

- There you go, Sir

With red eyes, he makes sure to eat every single cookie. Jin can tell he's enjoying the food but there's no smile on his face. On the third cookie, Tae looks up to him and talks in a whisper surprising Jin.

- Thank you...can I stay here today?

Tae doesn't want to go back to his room for now. And Jin can't say no even if he hates him. Still, he decides to see if he can take some advantage

- Sure, but...I don't like silence. So either you make small talk or I will give you a monologue

Tae nods but doesn't talk. He really feels drained out of energy. Jin is surprised to see he doesn't scream back at him. And so he starts to tell him stories, about a kid that learned how to cook looking at him and fell in love with a customer that came in every Thursday. About a doctor that once healed a soldier who came back from the war and helped him hide from the troops.

Every story is about someone in town. Someone who supports him and Hope and Yoongi. Someone who at the end of the day needs help. Needing a distraction, Tae hears every single one of the stories without knowing they are all real.

By the end of the night, when dinner is almost ready and Minhyuk helps him cook, he tells him a story about a kid, who ran away from Gwacheon where his parents died. He worked in a small town where he met two poor kids who became his best friends. He told him about how they met in the dumpster to look for food. And how they decided someday they would not let anyone else around them be hungry again.

- Did they make it?

Asks Taehyung as he steals another bite of the dinner the have to serve. Jin stops for a second.

- ...Some days they make it, some days they don't

- That's not fair! Change the ending, make them happy! Pleeeease...if not it's an open ending, I don't like those!

Jin almost laughs at how childish he sounds.

- That's because it is open. I'm still thinking how it goes on. What do you think?

Wanting to tell the Chef to hurry, Namjoon enters the kitchen but opens his eyes as he sees the scene. Tae has a half smile on his face next to Jin.

- I think they should make it. I like happy endings!

- Okay, but how? - Asks Jin, smiling back, but not letting the chance go - should I make a new character that helps them? It could be a Prince

- Nah, I don't like Princes

Jin laughs knowing he doesn't like them either, but decides not to say that. He needs to take advantage of this chance.

- It could be a good one. One that helps them live happily. Isn't that what Princes want to do?

That night during dinner, Namjoon thinks about the good image Jin must have of a Prince and smiles to himself feeling he's actually respected. However, after his father leaves the table he is shocked to hear his brother talk

- Namjoon, I'm gonna do a project to help Daegu's orphanage. Can you help me with it?

Jimin feels a smile crawl up his face. On a corner, Jin feels proud and a little confused because he never mentioned the orphanage. And on the other side of the room even though he tries not to have any expression, Jungkook feels his heart beat a little faster.
