He had everything, and now he had nothing.

Coiny stared at a picture of Mars within the planetarium. The university was full of lonely places. Lonely places he wanted to go to.

Would life be better if he was alone on Mars?

"You're still here?" Tennis Ball's voice asked. Coiny turned around and spotted his supervisor standing in the doorway.

Coiny nodded slowly.

"Your shift ended almost an hour ago," Tennis Ball explained, his lime green eyes narrowing in concern. "Normally, employees try to leave their shift early. Here you are, not even trying to leave it."

Coiny shrugged. Maybe it's because he didn't want to go home. Too many memories there.

Tennis Ball pursed his lips at Coiny's atypical silence. "Go home, Coiny. I hope your day gets better."

With that, Tennis Ball turned around and exited out the doorway. The lack of his presence made the air in the room oddly evocative.

His phone vibrated from his pocket. Probably another text from Pin. She's been trying to contact him but-

Just seeing her name hurts. To know that she doesn't want him. To know that he was too late.

Even if he did respond to her, she would just jump back into being friends with him. For some reason, that hurt him too much to bear. He would rather be alone without her if he couldn't have her in her arms.

He looks like a fucking disgrace now, anyway. He used to have such shiny bright eyes and hair and now they're dull. Loss of brilliance. More like a rust.

He was a disgusting, pathetic person.

The copperhead boy turned on his phone and was surprised to see that it was a text Nickel, not Pin.

"Coiny," Nickel had texted. "Come to Match and Pencil's Party tomorrow night."

Coiny looked at the screen. What if Pin was there?

Pin would most likely be there. She was popular back in school and still popular now. He did not want to encounter Pin. But, he also wanted to see her.

His feelings were very complex.

"I might," Coiny texted back.

He didn't plan on it, to be honest. He just wanted to be alone. He secretly hoped everyone would forget about him. He sighed, picked up his bag, and walked outside.

The chilly night air slapped him in the face the second he walked outside. He had forgotten how fast the season changed. He missed summer. He missed the good memories he shared with Pin. He won't share any new ones with her.

A sinking feeling was left in his chest. He was so fucking selfish.

He sprinted back home as quickly as possible. The less time in the public eye, the better.

He only just now realized he was ashamed to be alive.

He knew Pin was hurting. He knew she cared about him. Yet, he was selfish. He wanted more than the world wanted to give him. His heartbeat was hurting. His ears were pumping loudly with rushing blood. It was deafening.

He sprinted up the stairs of his apartment complex. Waiting for the elevator would have taken too long. His feet skidded to a halt in front of his door, and he thrust his key into the lock. The key turned, and Coiny threw his door open.

He jumped inside his apartment and slammed the door behind him.

Everything was still.

Everything was still as his back hit the closed door. Everything was still as he slowly slid down to the cold, tiled floor.

Everything was still as he sobbed quietly into his hands.

Only the silence comforted him.
