The floor was cold.
It was cold and it hurt to lay on for an extended period of time.
Yet, it was the only solace Coiny had found during his isolation. The floor was his best friend. It kept him warm at night with its coldness. It kept him warm at night when Pin would never do that.
No matter how much he tried to forget, the image of Eraser with his arms around her was burned into his mind forever. He really was too late. She didn't like him anymore.
It hurt too much to cry.
The mildly irritating sound of someone knocking on his door snapped him out of his pity party.
Coiny glared at the door furiously, hoping the visitor would miraculously decide to stop knocking and go away.
Unfortunately for him, life did not let that happen. Life told the visitor to continue knocking, no matter how much he wanted to be alone right now.
He groaned, flipped onto his stomach, and pushed himself to his feet. What a fucking joke. Life was a fucking joke. The knocking was unbelievably persistent.
Was it Pin again? Coiny stood and stared at the door, making no move to answer.
As if life was answering his question, the visitor knocking on his door shouted at him through the barrier.
That was Firey's voice. Not Pin's.
Coiny sighed heavily. Firey never came around anymore. What would bring him here? He rubbed his eyes and sauntered over to the door. Once he unlocked his door, the click gave Firey the signal to barge in immediately.
The door flew open with the force of a volcanic eruption. It fucking scared Coiny half to death.
"Coiny!" Firey screamed, before slapping him in the face.
"Ow!" Coiny cradled his stinging cheek for a minute, deciding against slapping him back. Although, it was tempting. "Dude, what was that for?"
Firey held an accusatory finger within inches from the boy's copper eyes. "I'm slapping some sense into you, bro! Gotta get all the stupid, depressing shit out of your head. It's not healthy. I'm here to save you, man. I'm trying to let you know that life is too short to be sad all the time!"
Coiny's face morphed into one of confusion. "And I was supposed to get all of that from you slapping me in the face?"
"Do you want me to slap you again?" Firey raised his palm into the air. "Maybe you'll get all of that from a second slap!"
"No, no no!" Coiny threw his hands in front of his face defensively. "You've already slapped sense into me! I understand, bro! I've transcended into a superior being!"
"Good!" Firey curled his hand into a fist and thrusted it into the front pocket of his flame-orange hoodie. "That's what I thought."
"Bro," Coiny squinted, peering at Firey's hoodie. "Your shirt is covered in cat hair!"
Fiery looked down and groaned audibly. "Damn cat steals my girlfriend first, now my clothes. Go figure."
Coiny laughed. "I mean, I gotta say the truth, man. The cat is cuter than you."
Firey's mouth dropped open in mock offense. "Are you kidding me? You don't see how cute I am? Who can resist this adorable face?" The ginger boy fluttered his eyes.
"Apparently Leafy can." Coiny joked back, watching his friend reel back in faux shock once again.
"Whatever dude," Firey chuckled. "I brought some beers. You want?" The orange-eyed boy turned around and picked up a six pack of beer from the hallway.
"Oh god, please." Coiny grabbed the six pack from Firey's hand and placed it on the counter. With that, the boys dug their hands into the case for a beer and popped the caps off with their teeth. Who could afford a bottle opener anyways?
Coiny raised his bottle towards Firey. "Cheers?"
"Cheers," Firey replied, clinking his own bottle against Coiny's. They both took a quick drink before dropping the bottles back onto the counter.
"So," Coiny began awkwardly.
"Let me talk first, dude." Firey put his hand up to stop Coiny. "I'm not trying to intrude or anything, but-"
The ginger looked at the wall for a minute before shaking his head and continuing.
"You've been kind of a downer. We're all super worried about you. I'm worried, Leafy's worried, Pin's wor-"
"Stop!" Coiny scowled. "Pin is not worried about me! At all! I saw her and Eraser and Match and Pencil's party."
Firey's eyes widened in alarm. "Look-"
"No," Coiny swallowed thickly. "She's moved on, she's better off without me. Eraser can take care of her. Fuck, he's more of a man than I am." The copperhead stalked away and limply dropped himself onto his couch.
"You can tell yourself that," Firey replied. "But if someone really loves you, they don't move on that fast. Pin really loves you, despite what she tells you. Despite what she tells herself. Fuck man, everyone can see that. You feel it too, bro. I know you do."
Coiny sneered, copper eyes glinting with self-loathing. "What do you know?"
Firey jumped onto the couch and shook Coiny by the shoulders. "What are you talking about? Remember when I was a total ass to Leafy? Despite the fact she seemed fine, she still loved me! She needed me bro, and even though she said no, I was there for her. You gotta do the same for Pin!"
Coiny looked away, shaking himself from Firey's grasp. "I'm not as good of a person as you are. Pin doesn't deserve someone as pathetic as me. She deserves more."
"I'm not a good person! I was borderline abusive until I corrected myself!" Firey hissed back, his tone full of exasperation. "You may think Pin deserves more, but she loves you, dude! You gotta make her realize it! Hiding from the world isn't gonna do that."
"I can't convince her like that," Coiny growled in response, his tone laced with venom. "I've tried with words. It doesn't work."
"That's not the only way." Firey gripped the copperhead's shoulder tightly. "There are many ways to solve a problem."
Coiny slowly let out a breath, his eyes downcast. "Fine. I'll give it one more shot. If she's not convinced, no more dude. I'm done."
His words were sharp. Sharp enough to hurt.
Someone must have hurt him first.
Firey patted Coiny's back slowly. "Yeah, man. I understand. More beer?"
Coiny nodded his head. "Why not?"
