A good night's sleep must've provided some insight for Dean, as he seemed neutral the next day. After being cooped up in their small motel room all day, Jayde and Dean were out in the Impala, driving around the small town and looking out for anything weird. Sam was back at the motel, still trying to figure out what they were hunting, most likely buried in the 5 or 6 books Bobby had lent them. Jayde and Dean drove in mostly silence, classic rock music quietly playing through the small radio. Jayde was sitting in shotgun, feeling Sam's imprint on the seat enclose around her smaller figure. The occasional street light bathed the pair in light, the lack of words shared between them eerie. Dean's ringtone made Jayde jump, the sudden sound of shredding guitar echoing through the small space.
He flipped it open and put it on loudspeaker, the crackling sound of Sam waiting on the other end of the line filling the empty space.
"Yeah?" Dean threw the phone to Jayde to hold, not risking balancing it on the dashboard and causing its inevitable fall moments later.
"There's a cop car outside." Sam's voice was low and slightly nervous, as if he was holding all his air in and refusing to breath out. Jayde exchanged looks with her brother, but he seemed reasonably collected, no clear reaction visible on his face.
"You think it's for us?"
"I don't know."
"I don't see how. I mean, we ditched the plates, the credit cards, virtually everything." Jayde put on a good voice despite the fact she was slightly nervous, but spoke clearly as she tried to channel Dean's calm nature. After a moment she heard Sam's distinct sigh of relief and gave her own breath, happy that they remained concealed for at least another day.
"They're leaving, false alarm."
"You see? Nothing to worry about." Dean smirked at his little brother's nervousness, winking at Jayde before turning back to face the road.
"Yeah, being fugitives? Freaking dance party."
"Hey man, chicks dig the danger vibe." Jayde promptly leant over and hit Dean's shoulder, both laughing and annoyed at her brother's snarky comment.
"Give him hell Jayde." Sam's smile was so expected and vibrant that Jayde could practically hear it over the phone. "So, you got anything yet?"
"Are you kidding? How could we? You got us sifting through like 50 square miles of real estate here."
"Well that's where all the victims disappeared." After investigating the initial disappearance that had brought them here, the Winchesters had discovered that over the past few years several different kidnappings had taken place, specifically in one area.
'Yeah well, we got at least squat. What about you?"
"Just one thing. I'm pretty sure of it now. We're hunting a Djinn."
"A freaking genie?" Jayde and Dean laughed in a state of odd shock. It was a weird creature to come across, some years ago Jayde not believing they actually existed until Bobby told her a story about one he hunted. He never went into full detail, apparently simply stabbing the thing in the back after sneaking up on it. At first, Jayde figured that getting poisoned with one's touch wouldn't be so bad; being sent into your own perfect world was better than suffering. Bobby scolded her when she shared this however, saying that "It's a fake hallucination, one where you can't move and are forced to slowly die. It's all a lie to make killing you easier." which changed Jayde's view quite easily.
"Yeah," Sam finally replied, breathing a sigh at his siblings lax towards the situation at hand.
"What, you think these suckers can really grant wishes?"
