A few more days passed, just Dax and Maia. Green and Pink. Dax told Maia that his hunger hadn't returned in the coming days, but hers slowly returned. She kept hope, though. They were almost really there, at Polus. She knew things would get better for the two Impostors.

Then, something changed. Maia checked the Navigation path one morning to realize that the planet they had waited so long to get to was finally within reach. She squinted through the window into the distance, trying to see Polus in the vast emptiness. Only distant stars lit the way. Maia remembered there was a telescope built into the Navigation room. She used the computer to scroll, looking through the sky until she stopped at a purple sphere. That was it. Polus. They had succeeded.
Maia ran into the Cafeteria to tell Dax the good news. "Dax! I just checked Nav, and - we're approaching Polus! We'll be there in about 32 hours. We made it!" Beneath his helmet, Dax grinned. "That's great! We- we did make it Maia!" In his excitement, he ran up to her and hugged her.
Between his arms, Maia felt at home. In the split second, she knew protecting him had all been worth it. Maia knew she must have felt this way for a reason. All her admiration for the owner of the green spacesuit swelled in her chest. Intoxicated by the sudden closeness, and without thinking, she spoke.
"I - I love you," she said quietly. Dax froze. "R - really?" "Yeah," she replied. Dax stepped back. "Is that why you protected me?" "Dax," she started, "Ever since I first saw you, I have been drawn to you in a way I can't explain. And ever since I first saw you, I've been protecting you. You're all I have left to care about anyway, and I... I hope you can return the feeling."
"Maia," He began, "Though you were an Impostor from the start, I always felt safe when you were around." He chuckled. "And now that I'm an Impostor, I guess we have to stick together, right? Thanks for protecting me while I was human, Maia. I- I love you too." Dax leaned forward and carefully bumped into Maia's helmet with his own. "I'm yours now," he giggled.

The next day, Maia checked Navigation again, taking Dax with her. Polus was very close now. Maia could easily see the planet without the use of a telescope. Four hours and thirty-two minutes were left until they would arrive at their destination. Maia grinned in anticipation. She turned to the other Impostor, who shared her exitement. The two sat down in Navigation and talked, watching the timer slowly count down. They had gotten lost in a long conversation about the species one might find on Earth, when Maia heard a sound. When she looked out of the Navigation window, she saw Polus, much closer than before. She checked the timer. Four and a half hours had slipped away with Dax at her side.
The Skeld had gone into Polus's orbit, and now all that was left was to board the Dropship and land at the headquarters. Maia and Dax looked at their tablets, which had an option to warp into the Dropship attached to the outside of the Skeld. "Let's go, Pink," the new Impostor said for nostalgia's sake. The two warped into the Dropship.
Once inside the Dropship, Dax triggered the launch sequence. They would soon disconnect from the Skeld and head toward the headquarters on Polus. The Impostors would soon meet the inhabitants. Maia had told Dax that Impostors had taken over the headquarters, which meant they must have a food source to share. Dax hoped it wasn't humans they were eating. The thought unsettled the new Impostor as the Dropship began its descent to the purple planet.

The two Impostors had landed at the headquarters. From outside the Dropship, four Impostors stood patiently, waiting for their guests to show themselves. The Dropship's door opened, revealing two Impostors wearing pink and green spacesuits. Dax and Maia looked out at the new scenery. Maia's gaze settled on the four Impostors in front of the Dropship. They were clad in spacesuits of orange, brown, lime, and yellow.
"Greetings, newcomers," a friendly voice came from the brown suited Impostor. "I am the leader of this settlement. ID, please?" Maia replied, "10-37-029. And this one... he doesn't have one. He was born human, but- well, he's an Impostor now, after surviving a bite. From me." Maia chuckled nervously. "Ah," chirped Brown, "Welcome to the club. We've heard of this before, now haven't we, Yellow?" Yellow nodded. "Yeah. I was a human too, before Lime changed me. It's pretty cool though, right?" Dax nodded politely in reply.
"Anyway, you two can choose whether you would like to continue to your next mission or stay here with us. Most choose the former. It gets pretty boring here. Technically you aren't supposed to stay here, but I give everyone the option of staying as a worker here. Like I said, it gets boring, but if you don't want to complete jobs, I'll allow it. Yellow has changed our perception of humans, so we think each Impostor deserves a chance to stop - even if we have to fly under the radar of the government, because they want jobs completed so often.
"Well, I'd definitely rather stay, I suppose- what does your diet consist of, by the way?" Dax said. Orange giggled. "Well, we don't eat humans, if that's what you're wondering. The humans who created these headquarters discovered that plants were able to grow here. These organisms have the life force to sustain us, but they feel no pain." "We're vegan," Yellow added, "We just have a garden, no murder involved."
"Interesting," Maia said. "Seems like the perfect sustenance then." Orange nodded. Dax's fears were quenched. He had Maia by his side and he was safe. "Well," he said, "Sounds good enough for me." "Perfect," replied Brown, "I'll give you two the tour now, alright?" Maia grabbed Dax's hand as they began the rest of their lives together. With their new friends on Polus, they were safe and happy. They would greet other Impostors when their jobs ended, and life would be easy for once.
