It's been a week since Theodore and I had visited the zoo, a week since we had actually made it official that we were dating. After I had told Eleanor and Liam, I had found out that Violet and Eleanor had been the ones who'd helped Theodore plan and organize that whole shebang, but the words and everything that was said in between, that was all Theodore. It's almost eleven o clock on a Friday and Kelly's bar is thriving. Sweaty, drunk bodies all over the place, loud music and the smell of body odor mixed with booze, cigarettes and burgers hung in the air.
Two more hours... two more hours... two more hours... I kept repeating to myself.
"Table Six wants more cheese curds and boneless wings." I yelled over the boisterous crowd to John. He told me that he was going to start closing down the kitchen and that table six will be his last order. I walked off towards the bar where Hannah stood stacked up to her head in booze, literally. Cases of beer and other wine and spirits had surrounded the entire back area of the bar as Hannah slowly restocked it in between each customer. "Hannah, I need two whiskey on the rocks, four shots of tequila and one martini."
"Holy shit girl! I don't know how we are going to manage this every friday night." Hannah sighed in defeat, her hands resting on her hips. "I'm slammed with orders and I know if I am, John is too."
"He's closing the kitchen. I just took the last order." I stated firmly, glancing around the crowded bar. "Once I take out my last order I'll come back and help you stock the bar while you work on refilling orders and keeping the peace until then. Sound like a deal?"
Hannah nodded and continued refilling cups while I walked off to check out table eight. They weren't the politest of customers but they were regulars and they tipped very well. On a good night I would make three maybe four hundred just in tips and that's not even half of what Jason and his mother, Kelly would make on that same night.
"How are you doing? Can I get you a refill?" I asked, smiling politely at Mr. and Mrs. Graham.
"Oh darling, we were just talking about you!" Mrs. Graham beamed. She looked to be a little over fifty as her white blonde hair passed over her left shoulder in a messy braid and the oval shaped spectacles hiding her blue green eyes. I clamped my hand over my left forearm nervously. "Where have you been?"
"My schedule got switched." I replied casually. "How have you been?"
"Oh we've been just dandy. Old Tom here took me out to the Olive Garden the other night. Oh my it was a lovely night!" Mrs. Graham went on telling me all about their date but I didn't say anything cause I was enjoying the small break.
"SOPHIA I NEED YOUR HELP!" Hannah yelled from across the bar. I apologized for cutting out early but I did in fact have work to do; they let me walk off soon after promising I would stop by their house one day for lunch and a cup of coffee.
Walking behind the bar, I gave Hannah a small apology, offering to make it up after the bar closed when I could buy her a proper drink. Keeping the bar stocked for the next two hours seemed a near impossible feat. With both me and Hannah behind the bar, John had to help keep order around here as the night grew later and the vibes had quickly turned sour.
Four fist fights had broken out in the last hour of the bar being open and it started over a spilled drink on the wrong woman. She got smart and then got checked by the same man who spilled the drink. That's when the second fight broke out; you see the guy who attacked her, his brother and best friend had gotten in a fight with the woman's stepbrother and boyfriend and her boyfriend just so happened to be a Saint Paul Police Officer, rookie division but a cop nonetheless.
Not twenty minutes later another fight had broken out over some woman who came with one guy but was leaving with another guy, and it didn't end well for either of them. He went to the hospital with a dislocated shoulder, bruised ribs and a matching pair of black eyes. The guy ended up checking out of the hospital and coming back with a few of his buddies just as everyone was leaving for the night.
