I walked in the office of Jennifer McCray with two things on my mind - Getting an Apartment and getting myself a job or two. I wasn't going to leave her office without making some sort of plan to get myself out of here. I needed a stable place to stay in order to have a stable career plan and a job in order to keep that place up and running.
"Good morning Sophia. My name is Jennifer, though you can call me Jenny. I am here to help you get a job and find housing." Jenny sat behind her desk with her curly red hair and a nice black suit. So far this woman seemed like the type to get right down to business and that's exactly what I need right now.
"Awesome. Can you help me get housing?" I asked blatantly. I didn't see the point in wasting each others time with niceties and manners. I wasn't going to be here long and didn't want to make many friends. "I'd kind of like to get out of here and far away as possible if you don't mind, as quickly as possible."
"Not a problem. We just need to do this questionnaire about your life and living and work history." She replied firmly. I said something wrong but that didn't seem to bother her much as she continued on.
"Okay so I can fill in some of this form just from your answers you gave in your orientation here. But while I am doing that I am going to need you to fill this form out. It's basically just listing where you have been living and for how long." Jenny passed over a few sheets of paper and pen.
The form was was filled with more questions than a college exam. I haven't had much of a resident history. I've either been homeless, couch hopping or on the run and if anyone had to verify any of it there would be nobody minus my pup, that Eleanor had taken in until I got a place of my own. I sighed in defeat - as the form kept getting more personal I became more anxious.
"Are you finished?" Jennifer asked politely, extending her hand out towards me. "I'll take that from you. Lunch is being served if you would like to go eat. We can meet again tomorrow afternoon to finish the application."
"Thank you, Jenny. Have a good day." I smiled, thankful to be out of the tiny office.
"Have a good one, dear." She said as I walked out of her office and out into the main lobby.

You look good today. 😍💦
Did you dress up for me? 😏
I didn't really have that much of an appetite after that message. I reached out to Eleanor eventually and she was more than willing to come pick me up. I needed to talk to her about these texts. If I didn't talk to somebody I was going to lose my mind. It took her awhile to get here but I was too busy staring at the text to care. When she finally did arrive I couldn't wait to get out of here. I was becoming restless and thought that I would implode from the pressure.
"What's up? You sounded so stressed out on the phone?" Eleanor wasn't about to give me time to myself.
"I think Jackson is out of prison." I admitted as I buckled my seatbelt. Eleanor's eyes widened in horror and worry. She sat back and thought for a second. "But I just checked the DOC website and he is still in there. His tentative date of release isn't until November. His expiration date isn't until April 21st, 2018."
"Just cause his tentative date isn't until November doesn't mean he hasn't or won't get out early." Eleanor stated. "Does the website mention if he is still in custody?"
"He's still in custody at Rush City." I sighed. I stared out of the window as she drove down the interstate main highway towards her house. "I don't know Lenny, I have this feeling it's him!"
