(Anything spelled incorrectly was done on purpose to show that she is very small and hasn't developed words yet.)
"What's wrong with her?" The mother begged for an answer.
"Well it seems she is going to have problems. She was born with weak bones and skin. She should be fine now staying at your home but if anything happens you will have to take her to a hospital." The doctor informed her.
This may not have had any effect on the doctor because he dealt with this stuff everyday but for the young couple their whole world fell apart. Their own child. Disabled? Crippled? Mute? What was wrong with her?
"What? So she's like a porcelain doll?! She can't even walk and she's 2 already!" The father cried.
"Oh yes that also. She will struggle walking. I predict it will take a few years for her to be able to stand let alone walk." The doctor dropped on them like a bomb rippling in a raging sea.
"Can't you do something!" The father was now screaming.
The small child in the stroller was crying silently wanting to leave. And the mother was just as shocked as the father but instead of screaming in anger she fell to the floor sobbing, cupping her mouth to silence her cries.
"There's nothing we can do except hope for the best. Now. My assistant will lead you to the exit." The doctor applied coldly.
A traumatized father, a sobbing mother, and a petrified child all coming out of one room. What could be scarier than watching that come out as you sit in a waiting room.
------------------------------------
Day after day her parents would wait trying their best to let time take the wheel, but the little girl was too weak. Even if she tried to speak, in her condition she wouldn't be able to say anything of importance.
She only got worse, they took her to a hospital where she sat in a bed all day.
Wince
"Oh. Did that hurt? I apologize."
The small girl only nodded.
As the woman left the girl was left alone in the scary hospital room. It was silent.
Cawtoowns, she thought. She pushed aside her blankets and dangled her feet off the bed trying to reach for the remote on the table but she was too far. Her arms were tired and shaking. Wawk. Wawk, she thought.
"Oh! No, no, no! Lay back down." The nurse said pushing the little girls legs back up gently onto the bed. "What were you trying to get? What do you need?"
"Mm." She said pointing to the remote.
"Is that it?" The nurse asked.
No reply. "Okay I'll come back if you need anything."
Down't weave mwe! The girl thought starting to sob as the woman walked out the door.
------------------------------------
"Happy Birthday!" The nurse sang. The nurse wore a party hat and she carried a cake, dancing around.
The little girl smiled enjoying the nurse's company, but her smile quickly faded as she realized her parents weren't in the room. Mommy? Daddy? She thought.
"Oh. Your parents." The nurse replied by putting the cake down.
The nurse and Y/N had developed a small connection where based off of the little girl's facial expressions and movements she could tell what was on her mind.
"They're probably not coming."
The little girl accepted it. They didn't come last year so why this year?
"Hehe, your cake! I made it."
The little girl stared at it in wonder. She admired its features. The little four on top, the strawberries, the streak marks from where the nurse obviously tried some of the frosting, she enjoyed it all. Was it okay? For her to feel this happy?
She started to cry.
"O-Oh what's wrong?? Is it bad?"
"T-Thank you-u." The girl spat out weakly. She grabbed her water. It hurts, she thought.
"Oh! Praise the lord!" The nurse said pulling the girl into a hug, she was sobbing in the girl's shoulder.
Those cries of joy were all it took for Y/N to break out in tears of her own.
"*Sniff* Here. Here. Cut your cake." She said handing the girl a plastic knife.
Y/N picked it up and tried cutting through her cake but she dropped the knife and her hand was shaky.
"Hoho, I thought this might happen!" The nurse exclaimed, pulling out 5 plastic knives from her pocket, "I'll help you this time." She said taking the girl's hand and stopping it's shaking. Y/N had the knife in hand and the nurses hands guiding hers through the cake.
The girl let out a squeal of joy. She had just cut her own cake for the first time!
Her cake was delicious and the nurse passed out sleeping in Y/N's bed. Y/N was unsure if she could ever feel happier.
------------------------------------
"Thank you, Y/N. I hope to see you again."
