Kya across the table at her niece, Jinora's 13th birthday party trying desperately not to look across the table and over at the Earthbender she grew up with.

She knew she shouldn't have felt this way. Especially not after all these years, she was never one to dwell on infactuations. Deep down the Waterbender knew how she felt for Lin was more than sexual. It was also physical, emotional, maybe even spiritual.

She tried bottoming her liquor in an attempt to put her emotions aside. "Spirits Kya! slow down!" Her younger brother droned on about her social drinking habits. He wasn't wrong persay- the healer had a reputation for being quite the party girl.

She was about to yelp something snarky right on back when a raspy, sexily familar voice tuned in. "Leave the woman be, not her fault you can't have fun everyonce in awhile." Lin scolded. Kya turned back over glancing in the officer's direction. "Says you. I didn't even expect to see you here today."

Lin's face turned a redish hue and her thoughts turned to mush as she realized Kya was teasing her. "Well I- I just..." Kya just watched and listened as Lin comically came up with a fake excuse that she hadn't been feeling well and took the day off of work; only to suddenly feel better and she decided to go because she had nothing better to do.

"Sure..." Kya snickered. She saw right through Lin's little white lie, Lin Beifong never skipped work, not for a cold. She had to have taken the day off. Kya decided to save the Earthbender's pride and not say anything.

"Shit. Shit. Shit, She knows." Lin thought to herself. The Waterbender had a knack for being able to figure out when she was lying since a young age. When they were kids Lin had been secretly suspicious that she was actually an Earthbender and had learned truth-seeing from her mother.

She gulped a big sip of her wine, letting the thick red liquid sit in her mouth before passing it down. The warmth in her stomach still hadn't been enough to calm the nerves that Kya had brought on.

Every so often Lin felt her eyes wander over to the Waterbender who was sitting between Bumi and Tenzin laughing and making conversation. Her bright smile reminded Lin of the lips she wanted desperately against her own. The slight of her collarbone had caught Lin in a daze and when she was knocked out of her trance she locked eyes with the Southerner who smirked maliciously, downed another shot of liquid courage and treaded up and down the Earthbender's body with her eyes. Momentarily pausing to admire every muscle and curve that showed even through the suit Lin had slipped on her way out the door.

Lin felt Kya's eyes on her as she tried to look away. Of course this was what she wanted...right? She'd become aware of the fact she had an attraction to Kya even after years of trying to deny it. But now that Kya was actually here. After all this time away she wasn't sure if she could say or do anything without messing it all up.

The Earthbender swiftly got up as she felt herself become nauseous. "Aunt Lin are you okay?" Opal asked as she felt her aunt nudge past her. "Fine." Lin grumbled. Kya was a little shocked by the sudden mood change, and began to wonder if she had done something to offend her friend. She waited a few minutes hoping she had maybe just gone to the bathroom; but after 10 minutes had gone by with no sign of her favorite Beifong she decided to investigate.

She walked over to the bathroom, stopping to catch her breath and calm herself. The Waterbender knew her freind to well if she came off as intense when Lin was already tense things would not go well.

"Lin? you okay?" Kya asked into the seemingly empty bathroom, she got no answer. The waterbender was just about to leave the bathroom and look elsewhere when she heard the lock to one of the stalls unlock and the partly metal door flew open. "I'm fine" Lin mumbled as she trudded out.
