Friday finally came around, and Regulus was sitting in a partially hidden corner of the Library. He smiled to himself as he waited for James. He had this weird fluttery feeling in his stomach. He didn't know what it was. 'I probably have a stomach ache from dinner.' He thought. James came into his view. He looked around, spotted Regulus, and walked over with a shit eating grin on his face. James sat down next to him. "What's up Baby Black?" Regulus rolled his gray eyes. "Why must you call me that?" James winked. "Because it has a nice ring to it!" Regulus chuckled. He enjoyed James' cheerfulness. He would never tell him that though. "So. I was thinking you could help me with my transfiguration assignment since I heard that you are good with it. I'm absolute rubbish." James raised an eyebrow. "I'm sure you're not that bad." Regulus got out his assignment and they got to work. Regulus looked over. James was so close, he could see the faint freckles on his cheeks. James turned his head and smiled. They were only inches apart. Regulus' heart was pounding. He glanced at James' lips. If he had any courage, he would have kissed him. Just as Regulus was about to lean in, James turned back to the homework. "Er… we should probably finish this." Regulus nodded. "Yeah…" Before they knew it, the assignment was finished and it was time for James to perform Head Boy duties. Regulus got up. He said goodbye to James, and walked out of the library towards the Slytherin common room. He was feeling light headed as he entered his dorm. All good feelings went out the window though, as he laid eyes on the envelope laying on his bed. He picked it up, hands trembling as he turned it over. He opened it up.
Dear Regulus,
You have disgraced our family, no doubt following in the footsteps of your shameful brother. We will give you one last chance to write back explaining yourself. We also heard that you have formed a friendship with the Potter brat.
Don't let me down, Mother
Regulus crumpled the letter up, and sat down to write a letter back. He was fuming. He finally understood why Sirius left them.
Dear Mother,
I indeed have followed in the footsteps of my Wonderful brother Sirius. I have decided that the life of a death eater is not for me. I would rather fight for what is right. And as for James, I do believe that I am allowed to be friends with whoever I want.
Goodbye, Regulus.
He set the letter on his desk. He decided to send it in the morning. He got ready for bed, and went to sleep, feeling better then he had in years.
