leaving leah's, we hurried to the school auditorium to receive our grad certificates and attend the ceremony.

i was up on stage in the auditorium receiving my valedictorian award when we could all hear the EEEEE OOOOO EEEEEE OOOOO of the police nearby us. the noise wouldn't pass. and it swarmed the school grounds. they pulled out handcuffs and arrested her. my own mother. of course she deserved it though for her child trafficking and money laundering practises. i could feel heat still rise to my cheeks from my mother leaving with the police and the embarrassment from it. here i was, becoming valedictorian and there she was getting arrested.

now matter how much i despised her. she was my mother. i received my award and ran, ditching my speech. i want to be there for her, before she became THAT person, she was my mother, the person who took care of me, gave me love, fed me. the police held me back, they wouldn't let me leave with her. i had to stay here. graduate. live the life that had been planned for me in this world.

i came back to sit down in my seat, hoping to cry on leah's shoulder for the rest of the ceremony but she was gone too.

the poor girl. who had thought that the valedictorian's mother would get arrested. everyone focused on the police but i couldn't stop look at her, the hurt in her eyes, her flushed cheeks of embarrassment. the sirens were fairly loud, the blue lights outside. oh god.

everyone saw her run to the police to get to her mother, the screaming, the tears that were already running down her cheeks.

she returned to her seat, in defeat. looked around as if she was looking for something but sunk into her seat defeated.
