She finds herself looking out the window again. The sun is visible between a few parting clouds and what little sunlight reaches the ground stretches across Jasper's front porch, where he sits, strumming to the song he's been working on for the past two weeks. Willa listens in content, unaware he knows she's there. She hums the chorus and imagines the possibilities of every lyric. A depressed boy who no one understands, his journey through a life full of sadness and anger and not knowing where he truly belongs. Then the melody shifts. It's sweet and flows smoothly. The boy meets someone that changes his way of thinking, a girl who herself is struggling yet finds every way to make the boy happy again.
Jasper leans back in the porch swing and finishes out the song, letting a faint smile to pull the corners of his lips up.
Willa can't help but smile too.
His head falls to the side and for some reason when their eyes meet, she doesn't cower away like so many times before. And when he gives a short wave, she returns it.

Let me tell you, my heart melted writing this.
It's short but sweet, just like these author notes. We're probably hitting the half way mark of this story, so the relationship between the two characters is probably gonna start changing but that's all I'm going to say about that.
