The silver moon entangled in loosely hung gray clouds that stood in the sky, concluding our search as a complete failure. Being forced to leave empty handed, I knew it hurt G as much as me to determine the search unsuccessful.
"Come on. There's no use in staying here." G said sternly, his combat boots kicking up scattered pebbles as he unlocked the car.
Taking one final glance, hopeful I would spot at least a clue, yet my eyes only fell upon moonlit disappointment.
The drive back was blurry. Even hope can add highlights to the world I guess. Because now, blinking away tears I came to notice that the neutral colors of buildings, and gray scratchiness of pavement was not nearly as infatuating as I had found it several years ago. "You okay?" I asked watching his skeletal hands tighten around the wheel. "Yeah." He replied. Clearly a blatant lie, but it was expected from a grown man. Especially one who whom I barley knew. "Frisk's never done anything like this before. It makes me question if this is just another side of her never seen before." I spoke shakily, the nervousness rising with each passing word. "Or maybe that's what you tell yourself. Because the harsh reality something bad has happened is to much to bear."
I was caught off guard by this man time and time again. I knew he spoke the truth. Although my fake outlook on the situation was possible, the chance something sinister did occur was highly likely.
I couldn't muster up anything I say, only to silently nod, fiddling with my sleeves to distract my brain from the building silence.
Pulling up to the side of the curb, I popped out of the car, my feet tapping the paved path. "Tomorrow, Grillby's, 6pm" G said his hands still tightly wound across the sterling wheel, unable to make eye contact with me as he seemed to be to caught up in his own thoughts. "Sure? So we're doing this for what?" I asked tilting my head only for the monster to grin as he dramatically changed the pitch of his voice "Why not?" I stood there, mildly confused until it hit me. Tightening my voice inching up the pitch I replied with "Hm. Why though" He chuckled as the meme of the two women replayed in his head. Covering the smile with his sleeve. It was adorable to me though I wasn't sure why. I guess laughter always did appeal to me. As it does with many.
Blinking myself back to reality I snapped my eyes back up the stairs peering up at the apartment door. The anticipation that filled me knowing the warmth of a shower and comfort of my bed sat moments away. "Well, one of our friends is kind of missing. So once you're safely inside I'm going to drop by the police station and report a missing persons case. For the time being I want the two people who know her best to try working to crack it. Plus, you've got a nice vibe, I need that right now." He rested his arm on the cup holders sternly placed in between the passenger and drivers side seats. Tapping his honey fingers, the tapping of them against the plastic rim reminded me strongly of tapping form that of a woman with long nails. "Didn't you literally get in trouble with the police not more than a few days ago?" He chuckled darkly looking up at the night sky whilst admiring the skyline. "Yeah, but I'm all honesty I only had the gun on me for safety. I mean, sure it's illegal, but magic is highly looked down upon. And with monsters facing heavy discrimination, and police brutality at that. I'd already have a bias judge for being a monster. If I used magic for defense and that went on record? Hell, they'd give me the death penalty for breaking sorry rat bastards arm." I tilted my head, now invested in the topic. "Why'd you have it in your hand though?" I asked, now looking up at the sky as well, trying not to stare at the man in front of me. "He tried to taze me for walking. Just walking. And when I didn't cooperate, the buffoon made an attempt to pin me down and handcuff me. A little while after I passed by you, I tripped over some old lady's ugly ass dog and he got a stern hold on me. Took me to the police department and actually tried convince the department I was a wanted "child predator" who'd been on their radar for a few months or so, when the man knows for a fact the evidence led to that of a human male, not a pile of bones."
His words were pure truth, possibly the reason why I now stood in place, unable to move, as if my feet were submerged into the concrete, it's hard surface practically squeezing the blood flow from my ankles, as my neck ached to look around. Yet anywhere but up felt unsafe, as if the movement of head was a timid bunny frozen in the snow fields for the moment they moved, the white fur coat would morph into a striking orange ensuring their swift demise.
I found my voice had become tired of the sickening silence. Making notice of itself with a mere "I-" only to retreat back into my throat again. My mind frantically searching for words to describe my upset with the world and it's discrimination.
"I-I can't say I understand your situation. I mean how could I. But, I hope you know that I've never feared you because of your appearance. I can't judge you for something you have no control over, and, that's how I view all beings of all backgrounds. I really wish the world were slightly more accepting. Because, you don't deserve to be treated the way you are."
Gaining the courage to look to him, I found he had already torn his sockets away from the night sky, now staring at me with such intensity. As if he'd never heard those words before.
"Well, I wouldn't say I don't deserve it. Now, their reasoning for putting hands on me is completely absurd I agree. However, this kind of thing happens to people of much higher innocence. Anyway. Enough of that, I'll see you tomorrow. Get some sleep."
