William Thompson's P.O.V
The early morning breeze blew on my face as I watched the waves crash into the bow of Ontario. By now, the six of us were out on patrol for four hours and were on our way back to port with nothing to report.
It was another uneventful day, as it had been since arrived got here. Sure, the reason for this base was to search this ocean they nest in so frequently. But these days there are hardly any Siren sightings anywhere in the world.
It was as if they vanished entirely, no longer interested in us. Perhaps slaughtering more than half the world's population was enough to satisfy them? Most likely not.
Looking further down from her bridge, I found Ontario still sitting on her upper turret, reading the book she had been so interested in for the past few days. Once, I asked her about it, and she told me it was a romance novel. It was a bit of a surprise, to say the least. I never pegged her as the type of person to be into a genre like that but, to each their own.
My gaze wandered from her to Meon's ship sailing alongside us. Before I knew it, I became lost in thought before the comms telephone rang from behind.
"Thompson," I answered.
"Sir Sioux and I are so damn bored!" Vancouver complained with a childish whine. Leaning against the wall, I looked out towards her ship.
"I see, could you two not play I Spy by Signal Lamp?" I offered a sarcastic solution.
"Oh yeah! I spy with my little eye something that is blue!" She returned the sarcastic tone. "Come on, there's got to be something better you can think of to cure this boredom!"
I knew exactly what they were trying to ask for, and I just sighed. We were only just under half an hour out from the base, so I guess it wouldn't hurt too much.
"Would you two perhaps enjoy some target practice then?" A defeated sigh left my lips. On the other end of the line, I could hear her silently cheering in success.
"I think that could work, sir!" She replied.
"Gotcha," The disappointment in my voice couldn't have been more noticeable. I just wish they could find an ounce of patience just once.
"Sussex, Thompson"
"Go ahead sir," Sussexvale answered within a few seconds of me switching over the channel.
"Vancouver and Sioux are getting very antsy. They're wanting some target drones."
"Yes sir."
"And set their difficulty high, please; it will keep them busy."
"Of course sir." I heard a little giggle before she hung up. Looking beyond Vancouver's ship, I watched several blue drones deploy from Sussexvale's stern and fly past the two destroyers.
Their ships began to glow before both were deconstructed into their riggings before the two gave chase. Each drone circled and dove at the two, imitating an attack from the sky until they were taken out by a screen of flak, having the girls dodge around as they crashed into the ocean below.
I watched the two go at it until a loud bang startled me. Switching my gaze, I came to find smoke emanating from her main gun as Meon sat on her bridge. Her sight lay directly on me with a lustfull look and a smug grin plastered on her face. Her chin rested in one hand while her auburn bangs hung low over her right eye.
