It isn't an everyday thing when you make a connection with someone. Everyday it becomes harder and harder for someone to actually make a friend. Even in families, it's not common for everyone to get along just fine. That's why it's so special when someone makes a bonding with someone else.

In this world, soulmates meet differently from what you probably expect. You're probably thinking of the famous red string tying soulmates by their pinky finger, or people being able to see colors just after meeting their soulmate.

Yeah no. That's not how things work in here.

Here, soulmates meet through dreams.  It's mostly feelings. The sense of peace, completeness. Soulmate dreams are recurring, though they do not happen every night. You really cannot see your soulmate. Each person is replaced with a small light, these being called "souls" by the people. The light can change intensity and color depending on their emotions. The catch is that each person's is different from each other, meaning you have to figure out your significant other's colors and intensity of light meanings by yourself.

Every couple's dream land is unique. It may change according to how the relationship develops. It may grow to something beautiful that you and your soulmate can be yourselves without really feeling any worry, sadness, or frustration the real world can give you. Or, unfortunately, it can become something horrible and torturing for the couple. Some dream lands even have perished due to no effort from the couples.

Sad, I know.

But that's just how life is right now. People are more focused on work and worldwide problems than seeking peace and happiness. People have died without ever meeting their soulmate. What made her different?

She wanted to meet her soulmate. That's it.

Out of all the people in the world, she was one in a handful of people who desired to meet their soulmates. As a child, she would wish for it every time she saw a shooting star. She really wanted to. Years had passed and her desire to know who she was matched to didn't die down. Instead, it grew into a raging fire inside her.

"Yang Jihyun, can you just hurry up? we're, like, ten minutes late!" Jihyun's neighbor and classmate since kindergarten, Lee Donghyuck, called from outside, banging the front door in desperation. "I swear, if I have another appointment with the teacher after school because of you, I'll strangle you."

As she opened the door, she was met with his usual irritated expression. She was amazing at annoying him, it was basically her career at this point. "Aw, is the little baby mad because his injured friend couldn't get dressed quicker?"

"You're no longer injured. It's been weeks already," he replied, helping her with her stuff as she closed the door and locked it.

A scoff came from her lips as she turned back to him. "Injuries can last months, years even. Thought you were smart."

"You posted a dance cover yesterday," he hissed.

She took her stuff back from him and started walking away, signaling him to follow. "That could have been recorded before the injury."

"You had your hair dyed."

"So?"

"You dyed it three days ago."

"Huh?" she raised her eyebrows at him, pointing to the earphones she was wearing. She really wasn't listening to anything, she just wanted him to shut up.

This made him roll his eyes and give a chuckle in response, shaking his head. "You're a nightmare."

"There you are, what took you so long?" The first one to greet them was an upset-looking Mark. He was at the entrance, along with other four familiar boys.

Hyuck was quick to give the girl a look before speaking. "Someone here was late."

"Doesn't surprise me," another voice spoke, making her eyes fix on the source of it. A very bored Chenle was sitting down next to Jisung, who was playing games. "She always does things late. Have you seen her grades?"

"You shut up. Don't you have anything better to do?" she replied hastily, walking towards them with Donghyuck by her side. "Why don't you go talk with Xinghua?"

A faint blush of embarrassment suddenly showed on Chenle's face, making the rest of them snicker at him. "Mark forced us to be here," was his response.

She shrugged her shoulders. "Could've just brought her with you. I would love a third girl in the group." They all started walking towards their class. Jisung groaned when Chenle took the phone from him.

"Speaking of which, how's Ryoko, Hyuck? Haven't heard from her in a while." Jeno's voice sounded calm as he turned to his friend.

He shrugged. "Okay, I guess. I mean, I can't be asking her to give me every single detail of her flight."

"She went to Osaka, right?" Jaemin asked, trying to remember. It had been a while since they last saw the smiley girl.

Hyuck nodded. "To see her family. You know, for Christmas."

"Oh, that reminds me!" exclaimed the girl, remembering the bags she was holding. She stopped as she looked at them, reading the tags with the guys' names. They all stopped with her, looking at her. "This one's... for Nana." The mentioned took the white bag.

Then she handed the bags accordingly. Red for Donghyuck, green for Jisung, blue for Jeno, orange for Chenle, and violet for Mark.

Just as they were about to open them, she said, "not here. I don't want the school faculty to take them away."

"Anyways," Mark changed the subject as they approached their classroom. The door was locked, meaning the teacher wasn't there yet. Other classmates were already waiting outside, too. "Are you guys doing anything for Christmas or nah?"

Chenle groaned in annoyance. "My mom wants me to help her decorate the house since my family is visiting. She even made me decorate my room. Who the fuck will go to my room and celebrate Christmas there?"

"Did you hear about the new student coming next semester? People are going nuts about it," Jihyun overheard some students behind her, muting Jeno's laughs at Chenle having a small Christmas tree in his room.

"I heard he's arriving on Christmas."

Once the teacher got there and opened the door, the students rushed in to sit down on their assigned seats. Jihyun sat not too far from Jisung and Jaemin, both gave her a smile before class started.
