"One for you, and one for you," Iris said, handing out plastic flowers.
"Is this what we're walking down the aisle with?" her sister, Dahlia, asked.
"No silly, this is just for practice."
Alex and Iris's wedding was only one week away. It was time to dot the I's and cross the T's and make sure everything was perfect. Iris was beyond stressed, but she hid it well. Not from me though. Even now, as she handed out flowers at this rehearsal, I could see the panic behind her eyes.
"What flower is this anyway?" Iris' youngest sister, Leilani asked.
"Irises of course," my best friend grinned.
"We should have known," commented Rose, the oldest sister of the bunch.
"Just be quiet and listen for the music," Iris said, falling in line behind me. "Are you sure you can walk up?"
"I'm fine Iris," I assured her.
I suffered a low-grade ankle sprain from the fall at the auction. I should be home resting right now, but I couldn't take sitting on that couch anymore or dealing with my super overprotective son. Plus I didn't want to disappoint my best friend by forsaking all my maid of honor duties.
But I had no business complaining, Angela had it worse. Eli told me that she suffered a more severe sprain than my own, and her arm was broken trying to break her fall. I apologized immensely that night as we got wheeled out of the school gym, but she promised she wasn't mad at me. That didn't change the fact that I still felt bad. She was, however, mad at the company that built the stage, and was ready to sue.
After I told Eli about Brooke's behavior, he decided to do some digging. He went to the company, told them about the Grants' plan to sue. The owner was upset and called in the workers that worked on the stage, and said he would fire them all. That was enough to scare the truth out of them.
Brooke, the actual seed of Chucky, had actually paid one of the stage builders to loosen a few screws.
Last I heard, Angela was trying to make a case against Brooke instead.
As much as I was happy about the plans against Brooke, I was extremely angry. I was the one that was supposed to be up on that stage. The loosened screws and collapsing stage were all meant for me. Was she so desperate to make me look bad that she would actually put me in harm's way? This woman was sick. And I was going to take her down, my way.
"What's on your mind?" Iris asked, pulling me out of my angry thoughts.
The music had started, and Rose had started walking down the aisle with one of Alex's old college buddies.
"Brooke," I stated, her name in my mouth made my stomach turn.
"Ugh," Iris scoffed, "I still can't believe that bitch did that."
"Right?" I said, "I'm going to write the hell out of that article and make her pay!"
"Speaking of the article..." Iris stepped closer so her sisters couldn't hear, "I might have found an opportunity to catch our lovebirds in the act."
I raised a curious brow, "Do tell."
"Well, there's a benefit gala happening in a few days. The Hawthorns and Ramona's husband are invited. The two would likely take a chance to meet up alone."
I smiled.
"There's only one problem though."
I frowned.
