Everyone's acting weird.
Candy, Shawn, Maggie the annoying camp counsellor, and especially Rory.
Okay, maybe things are weird between Rory and me because of our falling out but I swear it's a different kind of weird and I can't for the life of me figure out why.
I decide to pretend like this doesn't bother me.
I'm too busy anyway.
Lacey has started to neglect her job, leaving me to pick up the slack.
Plus, all my other responsibilities.
Plus, the permit.
I've barely had time to breathe.
I honestly couldn't care less what's going on with Maggie cause she's twice as annoying as Rory used to be so I'm grateful she's left me alone.
I've got very good at pretending I don't care that Rory won't look me in the eye anymore and that comfortableness that we had reached had all but vanished.
But I have a really hard time pretending I don't care that Candy and Shawn are whispering about things behind my back, and won't tell me why they want the same evening off and why I'm not allowed to come with them if it's not a date.
So, I'm a little more grumpy than usual. Are any of them really surprised?
It's Maggie that lets it slip. Maggie who gave them up.
After the permit finished, Rory immediately walked away to get dry.
Today was a Rory in the water day and me with Paperwork, so I busied myself with what I was supposed to do and ignored the niggling feeling in my stomach when she didn't even say goodbye.
I walk into the Counsellor's office to put the paperwork away and caught Maggie wrapping something. Not in the sense that I walked in and she had been wrapping something. No, at the sound of the door opening though she just swept it off the desk, the half-wrapped gift landing with a crunch on the floor.
I just stand there watching her, not sure what to say. It's clear she didn't want me to know about the gift, and that makes me wonder why. She better not have gotten me a gift.
"Oh Jeeze, I thought you were Rory," she says with a breathless laugh. And then she freezes and stares at me with fear on her face. I look down at the wrapped gift on the floor in confusion, why the hell would Rory care?
What? Why would she need to buy Rory a.... and then realization dawns on me.
Rory's birthday is this weekend.
I've finally remembered and we're not even friends anymore, if I told her that now that was sure to piss her off.
That must be why Candy and Shawn want the weekend off.
