Shawn loved camping.
So when he told me he was staying behind, in a show of solidarity for Jay, I was shocked. I mean... he's always been pretty selfish so the fact that he chose to stay for Jay was rather selfless. I couldn't help but ask why he would stay back.
First it was because he owed Jay, he needed to stay for solidarity, but he had been pretty bitter about that. Especially now that it was confirmed that we were going to be buddying up with Polished Elite and therefore would be allowed to use their stuff. Their better more expensive stuff.
What a year to be sitting the camping trip out, he kept saying.
Recently, however, he had started being more... gracious about it, like it was suddenly a necessity. That was odd, so I asked him again why he needed to stay back and I got a completely different answer this time.
Easy, he had told her, Jay needed him.
Of course, I had to ask what the hell that meant.
That's when Shawn told me about what happened.
That Bryce had come to the pool to tell off Jay. To tell him that he had designs on Rory. That Jay and Rory had argued again and this time he admitted that he did have feelings for her he just refused to try a long distance relationship, no matter who it was with. He was never going to do another long distance relationship for as long as he lived.
Something both Shawn and I thought was absolutely stupid.
He liked her. Why the hell was he fighting on getting together with someone he had genuine feelings for? Feelings both Shawn and I had always known were there.
Why was he denying himself happiness because Marnie was a bitch?
Rory was nothing like her.
Okay, maybe that wasn't true, maybe we didn't really know the real Rory, you know the rich and affluential one. But the Rory that we knew and love would never.
So both Shawn and I had come up with a plan, or well, I added onto Shawn's plan.
Shawn was staying back in silent solidarity for Jay, with the hidden agenda of attempting to talk sense into him. To ask Rory out before she leaves and never comes back, because we both figured that there'd be more of a chance she'd come back from her internship if she had something, or someone to come back to.
And I'm going to talk to Rory. Firstly to try and convince her to stay, and if that doesn't work I'm going to convince her to come back, at the very least to see me. Then I was going to console her about Jay and make sure she never... and I really mean never... go back to that lying scumbag Bryce.
And yes, I'm aware that Shawn's sudden interest in helping Rory is coming from a place of selfishness. It's not like Shawn can head down to Balfour House if we're no long friends with Rory because she got this big job with her father's company and drifted apart from us.
