Trinity Stokes
I rolled over my eyes half open and I shifted backwards a little seeing Kie's squashed face to close to mine. Strangely that felt like the best sleep I'd had in a while, it was probably the beers though. I sat up and faced the tiny fan that was plugged in and turned it on. It was silent which indicated I must be the only one awake. I did my best not to make noise as I headed to the bathroom. After I was done I washed my hands splashing my face with water to wake myself up and then decided to grab my phone from my car. I walked out the back door creeping past Pope who was passed out on the couch that sat on the porch. dashed down the stairs glancing at the water then paused seeing John B messing about by the hammocks. I squinted then made my way over without another thought. As I approached I realised he was re-tying up one of the hammocks with some wire.
"Are you bored or something...?" I trailed off examining things then being slightly shocked. "Are you-"
"Yep it's for you." He answered abruptly.
He was setting up a new hammock for me?
I raised my brows with a smile then cleared my throat to snap myself out of the pooling glee. "That's nice of you..." I said hesitantly and folded my arms.
"Nice is my middle name." He replied confidently with a nice smile.
"And how are you doing?" I asked softly cocking my head
He hesitated looking at me realising I had dropped all joking tone. "I'm doing alright, I've got my friends. Summer, the ocean..." He laughed to himself. "What more could I want?"
Your father?
"That's what what I wanna hear!" I grinned deciding not to push any conversation. I looked down at the hammock he was fixing up.
"By the way, this is very un-pogue of you."
He smiled to himself then glanced to me as he began tying up the other side.
"Well I've been thinking Trinity Stokes." He pointed a finger at me playfully. "What if we were to... come to an agreement?"
"Depends on the terms and conditions."
"Well you see I would be fine with you become a... Pogue, adjacent."
"I like the sound of that."
"You're gonna be here all summer. And the past times I've met you have all been pretty cool but I don't like socialising with kooks."
"Is that for the pogue records?" I mocked with a grin.
"Don't laugh. This is serious."
"Sorry sir." I apologised. "Just tell me what I have to do."Kie sat me down in a chair in the garden while John B, Pope and JJ stood in front of me. Pope walked in front of them and looked down at me with a very serious expression.
"This is a vow to uphold the terms and agreements of Pogue life on the south-side of the island." He began then stepped back.
"Rules of the knighting Trinity Stokes, a Pogue adjacent." JJ announced in a grand voice. "He shall not mention any-"
"She." Kie spoke up correcting him. "Pro feminism." She added.
"Are you for real?" JJ complained. "I felt so lawyer-ish." he explained rolling his shoulders.
"She shall not mention any brand names of any kind."
I watched as JB and Pope both frowned in confusion.
"What?" I laughed.
"No my Gucci, my Prada or... Chanel!" He listed making us all laugh.
"Wow didn't know you were such a fashionista." I reached up for the Prada bucket hat on my head and took it off with a nod. "Noted." I gestured for him to continue.
"She shall abandon all kook life, socially."
"Which means?" I double checked.
"It means no Sarah Cameron." Kie said giving me a sour smile.
"Well actually it means no Kooks." Pope corrected earning a scowl from my cousin. "Also no pogue left behind."
I nodded in understanding deciding not to dig into it. "No secrets among pogues." John B reminded them all.
"Free lifts in your snazzy Jeep over there." JJ continued winking at my car. "And you gotta know how to surf."
"You see that surf board right?" I stated the obvious pointing to my car. "And haven't you seen me surf before?!" I added. JJ only shrugged and stepped back communicating he was done.
"Aren't you forgetting something?" Kie pointed out. When they all remained clueless she rolled her eyes looking to me. "No Pogue-on-Pogue macking." She shrugged.
Of course she'd be the only one to remember this rule
"Got it." I said and stood up out of the chair. "You gonna brand me now or something?"
Kie laughed at my words and shook her head. "This is gonna be the best summer ever." She decided.
"Agreed, right after I go home and shower." I smiled. "I kinda stink." I added.
"Yeah you do." JJ agreed.
I raised my brows at him but couldn't help but smile. The no filter thing was growing on me.
"Or you could just take a bath?" Kie suggested.
"What?" I yawned.
"Guys lets go surf!" She suggested.
"I don't have swimwear." I shrugged.
"So go naked, I promise I won't mind!"
"Shut up!" Both me and Kie scolded the blond haired boy. "And the first rule of Outer Bank,- is you live like everyday your gonna jump in the ocean." Kie told me off.
"Well I need to get my board." Pope raised his hand awkwardly.
"Same." JJ burped.
"Meet us at the beach?" I offered.
"Sounds good." John B nodded.
