Chapter 17 - Making A Promise To Her Lover

Raven's POV

It was the first day of my mate in prison. I had to put her in the rusty cage myself, as I didn't want anybody to touch what was mine. "I will be back in a few hours, Flora. Make yourself comfortable, okay?" I asked her, watching her nod as a response. There was a old single mattress and a blanket, along with a wooden chair in the corner. It was very simple, but depressing to see my mate try to do such a terrible thing. 

I then let out a small sigh as I walked away from her, leaving her alone to think of a good apology. I wanted to turn her so badly and make her a perfect Queen, but the chances of that are likely not going to happen with her being so strong to try and block out my compulsion. "Where is Flora?" I heard Polly ask me, making me look at her. "Flora has tried to escape last night. She is currently in prison, being punished." I told her the truth, not wanting to lie to her. 

"She tried to escape? Why?" she then chose to ask me, making me frown at her. "Sorry." she whispered, before I watched her walk away to the dining room to be with Patricia. 

I had no idea why she was trying to escape, to be completely honest. All I could really think about was the blood moon. I didn't know when it was going to come. It did feel incredible though, my whole body felt like it was on fire at one time during the first blood moon with her. 

A few hours later, I carried down some dinner to my mate, who must have learned her lesson by now. "Hi, I got some food for you to eat." I told her softly, while I was walking over to the cage. She was sitting on the mattress, with her lovely long legs crossed. I watched her stand up, before she walked over to the wall of the cage and wrapped her fingers around the bars. "I'm sorry for trying to escape." she apologised. 

I let out a gentle sigh at that apology, placing the black tray down and opened the cage door. "Are you letting me out?" she asked me, hoping that I would say yes but her punishment wasn't over yet. I moved the tray towards her with my hand and closed the door again. My mate looked down at the tray before she sat down and began to eat it. It was only a chicken salad. 

"I care for you, Flora. I am not a monster. You need to understand that." I told her as she ate. "My dead heart aches for you, that is how much it upsets me to see you in this spot." 

I watched her eat a bit more before she stopped to look up again at me with her pleading eyes. I then couldn't even look at her anymore as I started to leave her again, until I heard her say...

"I promise to be with you forever. I promise I will always be there for you. I promise to never try and escape. I promise..." I then heard enough as I vanished and reappeared in the cage with my mate, pulling her into a kiss. "Do you really mean that though?" I asked her in a whispering tone in her ear, before I watched her nod hesitantly. 

"I will let you out in the morning, my beautiful soul." I told her before I vanished yet again and appeared in my bedroom. Today was a sad but a great day.
