Try not to let this life suck you in or suck you down . Resist the tide, I know it pulls hard and overwhelms . Try to keep going even if you have to crawl.
-Yasmin Mogahed.I packed slowly, handling everything as if my life depended on it. The major part of my heart couldn't wait to get home, the other part of me was dreading it. At least school keeps me busy and the noisy atmosphere of the hostel keeps my Mind off things. I know if I go back home it would be different . I may be a little busy with house chores and running errands but that is basically it . Plus, Adda Maryam would keep being sympathetic, I know she tries not to be, she just can't help it; and Hamms Umar may notice something is wrong, I don't want to lie or explain
I am good at hiding my feelings but I don't think I can keep this for long, because its kinda breaking me from d inside.
As much as I hate crowds, I don't like being by myself these days . Being alone makes my mind wander to forbidden places and remember things I rather chose to forget. I know I am a weak person, but I am determined to hold on until my lord calls me home.
"Hey Sherlock " I turned with a smile and saw Hannan standing by the doorway.
"Oh! If it isn't the queen of dumb land ."
"Pu-leez, " she raised her hand ."You will kill for a brain like mine. I don't blame u really, you have a sponge in place of mine ."
" I will gladly keep my sponge than have nothing up there ." I pointed at my head.
"Whatever ." She said rolling her eyes before she collasped on my bed ." God, am I tired ? I have been packing since morning ."
"Tell me about it, I am almost done though."
"Uhmmmn, and you still look like you simply dusted a lint of dirt off your shirt . Are you sure you are human? " she looked at me suspiciously .
"It is not my fault you have low stamina ."
She glared at me, then almost immediately her eyes shined mischievously as she detected something under the novel I was reading . "The confession " by John Grisham, I was actually reading it again.
"Oh well! Look what I found ."she quickly snatched the chocolate bar as I reached out for it.
"Give it back .this is chocolate sister not a toy . It is man's biggest invention. It is life in a wrapper . It is all the pleasures of the world moulded into a......" before I could finish what I was saying, she ran off. Yes, the price I pay for being dramatic.
" Run as fast as you can, you can never catch me. I am the gingerbread girl." She shouted from a safe distance.
" seriously? That is so lame ."
"Lame or not lame I win." She struck out her tongue at me.
" Do not be so confident. Revenge is mine sister." I laughed evilly.
" Revenge is not for cute little kittens like you honey . I know this ends here."
" Do not underestimate the power of your opponent."
She snorted ."Yup and pigs can fly ."she waved the chocolate where I can see it and blew me a kiss." Thanks a lot darling ."
My attempt to glare at her failed. I ended up with a wide smile on my face. She unwrapped it and took a bit, exaggerating how sweet it taste, with that she took off.
I smiled at her retreating figure. That girl had a wonderful talent of making me feel better. She helped me a lot through those few dark days. Even though I didn't tell her what's wrong, she is just the once in a lifetime kind of person, spreading joy wherever she passes. Though extremely shy and reserve, she is really a crazy person when she gets comfortable with you.
I walked back into the room and it wasn't long before I finished packing and collapsed on the bed, taking a short nap before Asr.

To make up for lost time, I decided to do something special for mum. I wanted to buy her a gift but I didn't know what to get her, so I settled foe breakfast in bed .I made something simple that I know she loved. Fried yam, plantain and egg sauce with a cup of tea. I loved cooking, and doing what you love for the people you loved is the best feeling .
Satisfied with what I have made. I made my way to her room . I said my salam and she answered cheerfully, inviting me in. I hesitated before making my way in and dropping the tray on her bedside drawer. She looked at me with confusion evident in her eyes.
I sat down on the carpet greeting her and she beckoned at me to sir down on the chair. I did that.
"What is this? " she asked.
"I....I ....um, I madeyou breakfast."
She stared at me as if not believing her eyes ."for me."
"Yes." She turned to look at me with a warm smile, her eyes watering . Oh not the tears, I said to myself.
"Thank you ." She said ."may Allah bless you ." I can't remember the last time she said those words to me.
We chatted for a while as she ate. And when I later left her room, I felt
Warmer and lighter, I haven't had this feeling in a long, long time.
