Karl follows me to the lunch table. Surprisingly, he and I have all of our classes together. He sees the group sitting at the table.
"Hot damn" he says under his breath. I barely heard him say it. I turn back and see him staring at Nick and blushing.
I just chuckle in my head and lead him to the table.
"Hey George, whose the hottie?" Nick says nonchalantly. Nick's sense of humour could not have kicked in at a better time. Karl turns beat red and starts muttering incoherently.
"He's just joking." I turn and say to Karl, who stops blushing so badly when I say that. I look back at Nick. "This is Karl."
"Well, nice to meet you, Karl. I'm Nick, this is Darryl and Zak. And this is Clay." He says, pointing to each person as he introduces them. I sit down next to Zak leaving the only empty seat next to Nick.
Karl give me a stare of hate and appreciation. He sits down next to Nick.
I start eating my lunch until I feel a buzz in my back pocket. I pull out my phone and see that Clay texted me.
Pissbaby: mind explaining the thing that happened this morning?
I look up from my phone to see Clay practically staring at me. He has remorse in his eyes.
Gogy-Man: it's nothing. I promise. I was just trying to get Drista to stop asking things. Worked pretty well, didn't it?
Pissbaby: yeah, I don't believe that for a second. I know when you're lying and no one uses cancer as an excuse for shutting up an annoying teenager.
Gogy-Man: okay, maybe I'm experiencing a small sickness.
Gogy-Man: and this small sickness may or may not be named cancer.
Pissbaby: why didn't you tell me? You know you can trust me.
Gogy-Man: I just didn't want for you to feel sorry for me.
"Why are you guys texting each other? You're legit five feet apart" Zak says and Clay and I look up at him. (A/N, and yes, I made the 'Five Feet Apart' reference on purpose. Such a good movie.)
"They're probably flirting with each other and they don't want to do it in front of us." Nick says flirtatiously. I feel myself turn pink and I see Clay blush slightly too.
"Oh, shuddup" Clay says. Nick laughs and goes back to teasing Karl about literally everything. Poor Karl.
Lunch ends and I go to my next class. Sadly, this is Photography class and Karl isn't in it. Once I get into the class I see a grade sheet on my desk. I look at it and see it's for the movie making project that I turned in last week.
I got a 95% on it.
I enjoyed it very much except for the one scene. I didn't like the gay kid.
Great, I got 5 points off because my teacher is a homophobic prick. I hear Wilbur come up behind me. To be honest, he was the last person you would think to be in this class.
"Hey, George! What'd you get for your grade?" He asked with his paper in hand. I hand him my paper and he reads the grade then the note under it.
"That homophobic bitc-" He starts but cuts himself off when he sees Ms. Walls staring at us.
"Mr. Soot, sit down right now." She says sternly. She has the voice of a 80 year old smoker. The scold that she gives Wilbur convinces him to go back to his seat. He seemed pretty pissed off.
The bell for the class rings and a few people rush in to avoid being marked tardy. Once everyone sits down, Ms. Walls begins to speak.
"I've graded all your projects and most of them were very disappointing. If you're upset about your grade take it up with me now."
Wilbur's hand shoots up. She sighs and points at him weakly to say he may speak.
"Why did someone in this class get points marked off for having a gay character? Are you that much of an asshat?" He says, starting calmly but progressively sounding angrier.
"Mr. Soot! You will not talk to me like-" She starts before someone else cuts her off.
"You marked someone off for a gay character? Do you know how much of a bigot that makes you?" Another kid in the back of class chimes in. Ms. Walls gasps as if someone just killed a puppy.
"You should give the person extra-credit for being brave enough to do that! But instead you take points off? You shouldn't be allowed to be a teacher at all!" Someone else says. The class continues to add in comments of how she was an awful person.
"QUIET!" She finally yells. The class goes silent.
