Dan and Phil's parents burst into the room to find the ballroom covered in ice and snow, as well as a crying Phil, hugging an unconscious Dan tightly. "Daniel!" Dan's mother cried. "Phillip, what have you done? This is getting out of hand!" Phil's father yelled, running over to the children. "It was an accident. I didn't mean it. I swear." Phil said, sadly. Dan's father picked up his son and gasped. "He's ice cold!" he said, concerned for his little boy. "I think I know how to help him." Phil's mother said. Soon, the two families set out on their horses to find help, with the Lester's horse leaving an ice trail behind because of Phil. Along the way, they passed two orphan boys named Martyn and Adrian. They were shocked and fascinated by the ice trail and followed it. They hid behind what appeared to be a large rock and saw the two royal families who were clearly concerned about something. "Please! Help! Someone!" cried out Phil's mother. The rocks tumbled towards them and revealed themselves as trolls. "It's the royal families." one of them said. Everyone chattered worriedly to each other as the troll leader approached the royals. "Trolls?" Martyn said, confused. The rock he and Adrian were hiding behind turned into a troll, causing Martyn to gasp. "Shh. I'm trying to listen." the lady troll said. Completely missing the seriousness of what was happening, Adrian hugged the troll. She smiled at him and Martyn. "Cuties. I'm gonna keep you." she said, hugging the boys.

The troll leader named Grandpabbie spoke to the family. "Your Majesties. Born with the powers or cursed?" he asked, holding Phil's hand to try and comfort him. "Born. And they're getting stronger." Phil's father said, worriedly. "Come. Bring him to me." Grandpabbie said to Dan's parents. Dan's mother kneeled down holding Dan, refusing to let go of her child. Grandpabbie saw the white hair at the back of his head and felt his temperature, sighing. "You are lucky it wasn't his heart. A heart is not so easily changed. But a head may be persuaded." he explained. "Do what you must. Just save our son. Please." Dan's father begged. Grandpabbie nodded and used his powers to show Dan's memories in front of them through images. "I recommend we remove all magic. Even memories of magic, to be safe. But don't worry. I leave the fun." he explained, changing Dan's memories from playing with Phil's magic indoors to them playing outside in winter. He put the memories back in little Dan's head and he smiled in his sleep. "There. He'll be ok." Grandpabbie said. Dan's parents hugged him tightly but carefully so they wouldn't wake him. "But he won't remember I have powers?" Phil asked. "It's for the best, sweetheart." Phil's mother said softly to her son. "Remove the magic in me too. Please. I don't want to hurt anyone again." Phil said to the elderly troll. "I'm sorry, I cannot do that. Your powers are a part of you. And they'll only grow." Grandpabbie said, waving his hands to create silhouettes of a young man and a crowd in the air. "There is beauty in it." he started, as Phil watched in amazement when the man threw a giant snowflake in the air. "But also great danger." Grandpabbie continued, the snowflake turning red and the crowd turning angry. Phil gasped. "You must learn to control it. Fear will be your enemy. And death it's consequence." Grandpabbie warned. The man screamed as the crowd pounced on him and Phil gasped, holding onto his mother for dear life. "No! We'll protect him. He can learn to control it, I'm sure. Until then, we'll lock the gates. Reduce the staff, limit his contact with people. Keep his powers hidden from everyone. Including Daniel..." Phil's father said sadly.

The next morning, the new rules took effect immediately. At sunrise, the staff was reduced, the gates were closed, and Phil was given a bedroom of his own. Little Dan was awoken by the bright sunlight. He moaned and rubbed his eyes. He looked across the room and saw Phil's bed and all his things were gone. There was no sign of Phil either. Alarmed, he leapt out of bed and dashed out of his room. He stopped when he saw Phil in the doorway of one of the unused bedrooms. "Phil?" Dan whispered. Phil sighed and closed the door behind him. Dan ran to the door, trying to open it, but Phil locked it. Dan sniffled and ran away crying. Phil sat on the floor, his back against the door and sobbed into his knees.
