The two men approached the counter and Dan tried to keep his distance. "A real howler in July, ja? Wherever could it be coming from?" Oaken said to break the tense silence. "The North Mountain." the two answered at the same time, putting the equipment they needed on the counter. "The North Mountain?" Dan repeated to himself. "That'll be 40." Oaken said to the snow covered men. "40? No, 10!" the taller one demanded. "Oh no, that's no good. See, this is from our winter stock, where supply and demand have a big problem." Oaken explained. "You wanna talk about a supply and demand problem? We sell ice for a living." the smaller man responded. "Oof. That's unfortunate." Dan said, facing the two men. They removed their scarves. It was Martyn and Adrian. "You're telling us! No one wants ice in the middle of a blizzard!" Martyn exclaimed angrily. Dan backed away in fright. "Sorry about that, don't mind him. We're just frustrated, tired and cold. I'm Adrian and this is my friend, Martyn." Adrian said. "Prince Dan. Nice to meet you." Dan introduced himself. "Prince?! Forgive me, Your Highness. I didn't mean to snap at you." Martyn apologised. "You don't have to call me "Your Highness". Just call me "Dan"." chuckled Dan. "Ok then, Dan. Step aside while we deal with this crook here." Martyn remarked. Oaken stood up slowly and intimidatingly. "What did you call me?" he asked. "Just to be clear, I blame you for this." Adrian informed Martyn.

Oaken picked them up and threw them out the door, into the snow. "Bye-bye!" he said, closing the door. Adrian glared at Martyn. "Shut up." Martyn grumbled, standing up and walking into what he couldn't decided was a small barn or a stable next to Oaken's with Adrian following behind him. Dan stared at Oaken with shock and surprise. "I'm sorry about this violence. I will add a quart of lutefisk, so we have good feelings. Just the outfit and the boots, ja?" Oaken asked. Dan had an idea. Martyn and Adrian brought their sled into the barn/stable and brought out a blanket, so they could use the sled as a bed. They bundled up, singing a quick song before settling in for the night.

Martyn: 🎶Best friends friends are better than strangers. Adrian, isn't that true?🎶

Adrian: 🎶Yeah, people will beat you and curse you and cheat you. Every one of them's bad except you!🎶

Martyn: Aww, thanks buddy.

Adrian: 🎶'Cause you know you can never trust people. Martyn, don't you think I'm right?🎶

Martyn: 🎶You know what? That's true. For all except you.🎶

Adrian: You got me.

Martyn: 🎶Let's call it a night.🎶

Adrian: (Yawning)🎶Goodnight.🎶

Both: 🎶Don't let the frostbite...bite.🎶

"Awww, that was a nice little moment." Dan said, walking into the barn/stabe in his new winter clothes. The two were startled. "Oh, it's just you Your High-I mean Dan. What do you need?" Adrian asked, sitting upright. "I need you guys to take me up The North Mountain. I think that's where Phil might be hiding." Dan explained. Martyn sighed and rolled over. "We don't take people places." he mumbled. "Let me rephrase that." Dan said, throwing a heavy bag at Martyn, making him sit upright and moan. "Take me up The North Mountain and I won't have you thrown in the dungeon." Dan threatened. Martyn and Adrian looked in the bag and saw all the equipment they were going to buy from Oaken. Martyn groaned. "We leave at dawn." he grumbled. "I hate to admit it, but that might be good idea. It gets freezing cold after dark and you must be tired. It's also much warmer in here and you certainly must be freezing from being out there for so long." Adrian rambled. Dan wanted to argue but it was no use. As much as he wanted to find Phil as soon as possible, he was also tired and cold. And the barn/stable was warm and cosy which only made him feel sleepy. "You're right. I'm exhausted." Dan said, getting in the sled with them. "Need some blanket?" Adrian asked. "No thanks. Oaken already gave me complimentary Oaken Sauna towels that might as well be blankets." Dan responded, folding one towel into a pillow and using the bigger, softer one as a blanket. "Goodnight Dan." Adrian said, lying down and closing his eyes. "Goodnight." Dan replied, doing the same as Adrian. Dan couldn't help but smile. He had two new friends. And he liked them much better than James, even if Martyn was a bit grumpy. Soon the three men fell fast asleep.
