"Sorry, as much as I hate to interrupt this beautiful moment, this man has been looking for Daniel all evening apparently." she said, gesturing to James. "Your Highnesses." he said, bowing. "Oh. James. Hi." Dan said. He wasn't expecting James to be looking for him after one little interaction. But he didn't want to be rude to a potential new friend. "I'm sorry Phil, I'll be right back. Don't forget that hug!" Dan said. "I won't. Have fun!" Phil replied. Dan waved bye and followed James. "Why did you want to see me?" Dan asked. "You strike me as intriguing, in a good way. You fascinate me." James said. Dan blushed. He wasn't sure if he liked this attention. He liked it from Phil, but it felt wrong coming from this man. "Think you could show me around?" James asked. "Yeah, sure. I know this place so well, I could go around it blindfolded." Dan replied. He showed James around, at the odd time mentioning a childhood memory related to what was being shown. He couldn't help but feel like he was giving James the wrong idea because he kept trying to put his arm around Dan or get closer to him. He felt a bit scared so he managed to get them both back to the ballroom. James asked Dan to dance with him and Dan reluctantly agreed. Yet he somehow found himself having fun on the dancefloor. He found James a little creepy at first, but as they danced together and chatted more, learning more about each other, he started to think he might've been overreacting.
As Phil watched Dan with James, he couldn't help but feel sick to his stomach and his hands turned to fists. He wanted to storm over and start dancing with Dan. He wanted to sweep him off his feet and dance the night away with him. But if Dan's happy, shouldn't he be happy? After all, Dan hasn't had a new friend in 23 years, he deserves some company. So why was Phil so jealous? But the final straw was when they finished dancing and James took Dan's hand and kissed it. Phil had enough and stormed over to them. On his way, he heard them talking. "Can I say something crazy?" James asked. "I love crazy." Dan said. "Will you be my boyfriend?" James asked. Angry, Phil pushed James away from Dan. "Get away from him, you creep!" Phil exclaimed. "Phil, what has gotten into you?" Dan asked in an annoyed tone. But secretly, he was glad Phil saved him. He was too afraid to say no. "This guy has only known you for barely one day and he asks you to be his boyfriend?! That's not normal, Daniel!" Phil yelled. "Neither is shutting out your best friend for 23 years, leaving them alone and not telling them the damn reason, Phillip!" Dan shouted. Phil felt hurt by Dan's words. It felt like his heart was stabbed. "I'm just trying to protect you. Now, if you'll excuse me." Phil said weakly. Phil passed a guard and said "The party is over, bring everyone out and close the gates."
