Chapter 3: Pick Your Poison

"Ask her out?!" I said through the phone.

"Trust me it'll work!"

"Ok, so how have you been doing with Zelda?"

"Well, I haven't asked her out yet."

"I don't know if I can build up the courage."

"Sure you can. Just trust me."

I sighed. "Fine."

I hung up and thought about the possibility of going out with Rosalina. That would be awesome, but what if she says no?

It was getting late. I needed to go to bed.

It was hard going to sleep, what with asking Rosalina out tomorrow.

I tossed and turned all night.

When I woke up, I felt exhausted.

I stepped out of bed, and pulled on a light blue polo shirt, and blue jeans.

I needed to look best today, so I put gel in my hair to spike it up in the front.

I grabbed some toast for breakfast, and then I brushed my teeth and started chewing some mint gum.

When I got on the bus, Luigi wasn't there, and Rosalina doesn't ride in the morning, so I put on my headphones and listened to Pentatonix.

Before I knew it, the bus arrived at the school.

I was really nervous. She's probably just going to say no.

When I got to Dr. Wily's class, I didn't ask Rosalina out yet. In fact, it wasn't until 5th period that I thought about it.

"Rosalina? Could I talk to you for a minute?" I asked.

"Sure!" she replied.

"So, there was this one thing....that I wanted to ask you."

"Yes?" she said softly.

"Well, I was wondering if...you'd want to, um, go out on Friday night."

"I'd love to," she started, "but Waluigi already asked me out for Friday night."

Waluigi?! My rival since first grade?! He asked her out first?

"But..." Rosalina said. "His answer is pending, so I guess I'll have to pick between the two of you."

Waluigi walked over to me and Rosalina and interrupted.

"Hey, baby. We still on for Friday night?"

"I never confirmed that we're going out."

"Come on, don't be so harsh."

"I asked her out too, and I'm more deserving."

"And how is that?" Waluigi said in his nasal voice.

"You don't deserve someone as genuine as her."

Rosalina smiled.

"Yeah, but I doubt that she'll even want to go out with someone like you." that jerk said.

"That's it! I have made my choice."

Waluigi and I stopped arguing.

"It's me." Waluigi whispered.

I lightly elbowed him.

He struck me with a hard punch.

I fell over and hit my head on the desk, and everything disappeared.

When I woke up on the floor, I saw Rosalina just about two feet away from my face.

"What...happened?" I said, clutching a hand to the back of my head, which hurt.

"Waluigi punched you and you fell unconscious for about an hour and a half."

"I bet since he was the conscious one, you picked him."

Rosalina helped me up off the floor.

"Don't worry."

She kissed me on the cheek.

"I'll see you on Friday night." Rosalina said, and then walked away.
