Chapter 4
"The Gold Ribbon Gift"After a couple of minutes, everyone finished up their breakfast and got into groups. Slowly, I stood from my chair and walked towards Kokichi, who had already acknowledged my presence and grinned.
"Soooo, it seems Saihara was quite set on being with me! Any reason for that?" He leaned forward and stood, despite his more teasing demeanor he still had a hint of confusion lacing his tone.
"No real reason, I just didn't feel like going with a bigger group..." I nervously tried to steer away from the subject, yet against my efforts, Kokichi continued. "Ah, so you knew no one would want to be with me, so I was your first option!"
"W-What? It's not like that at all!" He smirked as he watched me grow more anxious, "Sure~" He replied in a mocking tone, starting to walk towards the door. "Let's get going Saihara, don't want to waste any time!" He turned back to me, waving before swiftly disappearing around the door's frame. "Yeah..."
There was some sort of awkward silence between Kokichi and me as we walked through the halls, the smaller boy keeping a good distance ahead of me. Maybe it's only awkward because I see it that way... he doesn't seem to be bothered.
He seems so careless with the way he stays on top of all of us like that... I really wonder what that boy thinks of himself.
"Saihara?" Pulling me out of my thoughts, Kokichi stood before me, his hands resting behind his head. "Oh- yes?" "You're being awfully quiet, it's starting to bore me."
He continued and reached for a room's handle before swinging the door open and entering, leaving me alone in the hall. God- what a dick.
Yet slowly, I followed after him. This room is new... the room was full of arcade games lining each of the walls. "Woooahhh!" Kokichi instantly headed for one of the games, pressing a couple of random buttons to see if it would turn on.
Soon enough, it flickered on and presented the game's default screen. "Ouma, we should be looking around, not playing games-" "Oh whatever, let's have fun!" He clicked the keypad and selected a game mode, but I quickly rushed forward.
I grabbed his hand away from the game and turned it off, still holding the boy's skinny wrist between my fingers. "Saihara- hey!" "C'mon, we've got a job to do. Let's go."
Without letting go, I led him out of the room and shut the door behind us. He pouted for a bit but soon went back to his normal self, skipping through the halls as we continued to search the perimeter.
After a couple of minutes of silence, I started to notice the boy silently observing me as we strolled through the halls. He obviously had something on his mind, yet he hadn't said it yet. "I'm gonna start calling you Saihara-Chan, Saihara is just boring. And I mean, your friends already call you by your first name."
Ah, so that's why he's being weird. "That's because they're my friends." "And I'm not?" I wanted to tell him of course he wasn't my friend, and he never would be. But... I have to find some way to get him to trust me. Shit.
"You can call me Shuichi." His face lit up instantly, his eyes glowing a radiant color to express his excitement. "Really? And you'll call me Kokichi?" "If that's what you'd like..."
