It was snowing, my parents were home for once. However, the nanny was the one taking care of me. My parents were downstairs discussing plans.

The nanny brought me hot chocolate and read me a book as I looked towards Tommy's room.

He was playing a game on his computer. He was so engrossed in his game, occasionally shouting out of frustration when he lost. When he did, he would look to his left and stop to wave at me with the biggest smile on his face.

It was so cozy, my parents were home and they were still happily together and with me. The house was warm even in the cold winter. I had everything I wanted.

Until, my parents decided to try to move away. They had business elsewhere, and they wanted to bring me along to see if I liked it there. I willingly went along, as long as I had my parents there I was totally fine with it.

The night before I we left, I talked to Tommy. We weren't really as close back then but I thought I'd tell him where we were going.

"So are you leaving forever?" He asked. He was playing a game but had the right side of his headset shifted to the back of his ear to hear me.

"No, we're just going to try it out to see if I like it there," I replied. I was leaning against my open window trying to catch the snow that was falling.

"Oh, then when you come back maybe we can play a video game together to celebrate," he said as he slowly died in his game.

"Sure," I said with a big smile. That was the first time we were going to hang out together.

The next day, I went out bright and early in the morning for the drive to our new home. I was excited, yet nervous. I wondered how things would work while we were here. Hopefully my parents would be home every day from now on.

I immediately got enrolled into a school. I made friends with everyone because my parents said that if I had more friends, it would help me in the future when I take over the business.

I was particularly close to a quiet boy. I liked to talk a lot and many people got annoyed when I talked too much, but he didn't mind. He liked to listen to what I had to say.

The only sad part was that he was a year above me. Making it so that we could not hang out in class like normal friends.

When I was there, the situation with my parents got worse. They began shouting at each other a lot. They started to not come home as often again. My room didn't have a window, but I found myself constantly looking at the wall on my right. Imagining that little boy in the house next to mine playing his video games.

I wanted to go back, anything would be better than this. I didn't have any source of comfort here. It was cold here, not because of the winter but because I felt alone.

I made the final decision to leave, I bid farewell to everyone in school. I couldn't forget how everyone was so upset about my departure. The boy however, didn't shed a tear. He gave me a farewell gift with a note attached to it. He knew we would meet again one more time in our lifetime. It was a nonverbal understanding between the both of us.

Soon, I went back to the silent cold place I called home by myself. I cried for days and nights trying to comfort myself about the fact that I will never be able to go back to that warm cozy feeling I had just a few months ago.

When I wasn't crying, I distracted myself by studying and learning new skills. Trying to grow up as fast as I could so that I could keep up with my parents.

If I couldn't get them to stay, the least I could do was make them proud.
