Chapter 6

Dominic woke in the early morning hours, having slept quite roughly on the floor, leaving the beds for the little ones. He stretched and stood up, looking about himself, trying to make sure he didn't wake the little ones. He didn't have to worry about that, since the little ones were out of bed already.

Walking into the main room of the house he saw all his siblings sitting in a circle around his mother, listening to her tales, and telling them all about how long he would be there, and what would be happening soon in the village. She looked up at him as he walked through the door and beckoned him to sit down with them.

"The village will be a bustle with noise with preparations for an upcoming war in Dominic's part of the world. You know that twelve years ago I sent your eldest brother on his greatest duty, his destiny, as you will also go. He has found the place in which his calling has placed him, and he has come home in order for assistance in protecting it."

"Mother," Dominic interrupted, "do the children need to know all of this? I know your morals and you feel obligated to let them know the happenings of the world, but are they ready to learn they may never see their brother again?"

Pattel, Dominic's second sister, turned about and looked at him, piercing him with her violet gaze. "While you have been away your youngest brother has already started training for the medic's core, whose base training is the use and applications of various herbs and remedies. He is going to start learning how to sew up wounds and mend and set broken bones. So to know whether or not we will be seeing you in a few years if ever is not for our benefit, it is to let us know that we need to be looking out for you while you are here, and when you leave. Now shut up and let our mother finish what she needs to say."

Both Dominic and his mother chuckled slightly, shaking their heads before she began to speak again. "Well, as your sister has most aptly put, it is exactly why I am telling you all this. One of these days, I will ask of you all, when I can no longer take care of things myself to take care of each other. Your brother is very important to our cause, and he plays a key role in events that will take place in the not so far off future.

"I will not tell you in which order most of you will get your tasks, or for that matter, what your tasks will be. Just know that it will be suited with the skills in which you have taken your studies to. The only thing I will tell you for certain right now is that your eldest sister Kiara will take over for me when I pass. She begins the very lengthy process of training for my position tomorrow. Now, I believe it is time for you to go to your respective masters and begin your day's lessons. Kiara, go and graduate, and take the rest of the day for you."

The kids stood and hugged their mother as they stood from their morning talk and walked out the door to start their daily studies. Dominic came forth and took a chair from the wall and sat down, waiting for them to go about their studies. He looked at his mother, and grabbed a biscuit from the table in front of him.

There was a knock on the door of the house and Dominic stood, walking toward the door. "Come in!" His mother shouted, and in walked Draco Nasume, a little orphan found on the coast a couple of years ago. Dominic smirked, shaking his head and smiled at him.

"Welcome, I hope your studies go well today." Draco smiled a little shyly as Dominic walked out the door, and went over to the Oracle, and sat, his books being set out before him on the table.

Dominic walked out the door, stepping out into the fresh morning air, and took a deep breath, inhaling the scent of fresh rain. He took a step off the porch and immediately turned right, walking down the lane in search of his favorite haunts and his old sword master, Roland. Dominic had been quite young when he had started his sword training and by the time he was sixteen, he was a master swordsman.
