Chapter 12

The birds were beginning to crow as Dominic woke in the noonday sun. He looked over at Maya, his beautiful wife, and kissed her on the cheek. "Good morning, wife." He chuckled.

Maya stirred, stretching a bit, and yawning. She was a bit sore from last night, but that was to be expected. "Good morning, husband." She said a big smile on her face. She yawned once more, and stretched again, a good knee popping stretch that made her toes fan out wide.

He looked down at his beautiful wife, never having thought that this moment could have been possible. He smoothed some of her hair back behind her ear, kissed her lips, then her cheek, and finally her forehead before getting out from underneath the sheets. He pulled on his shirt, and some under garments, and walks out into the kitchen to bring breakfast in bed. It wasn't even two minutes that he was in the kitchen, than his mother showed up, scaring the hell out of him.

"Gees Mother, you could at least clear your throat, something..." He said, exasperated at having turned around with hot sausage in the frying pan, just to bump into his mother.

Miranda smiled kindly at her son, looking at him with the utmost respect for having such a splendid wife. "I just wanted to say congratulations, and good luck, Dominic. I have seen you do many things through my own eyes, and others, but you are a man grown now. You have been searching for your destiny for far too long. Now it has found you. Take heed that you carefully mold the child you have been gifted. She will cause much pain, but even more happiness."

Dominic just kind of stood there, looking dumbstruck, not sure how he should be responding. "Did you say, the child I was gifted with? As in, Maya's already pregnant?" It was at this point that Maya decided to show up, wondering what had been keeping Dominic from coming back to bed. She was wrapped only in the bed sheet, and had merely caught the tail end of the last bit of that conversation.

"Miranda? Is this true? Am I really pregnant already?" She walked towards her new mother, a little shaky on her feet. She wanted to know, badly.

Miranda responded with a gentle hand on Maya's cheek, cupping her daughter-in-laws face in her palm. "Yes. I have seen it. She is going to be beautiful. I will come back in 6 months' time. There are a few things I need to get in order at home, and then I'll be taking a year's vacation, where, I will be here. I want to see my grand-daughter and my children before everything gets too out of hand. Oh, and Dominic. There is one thing I must tell you upon my return. But that can wait. I need to go now. You two take good care of each other, and don't worry; everything is going to be fine."

With the last of her words out of the way, she turned about, walking out the back door, and vanished, a small shimmer where she was previously standing was all that remained. Dominic, still a little dumbstruck, turned to Maya, a smile breaking out across his face. "We're going to have a baby. I'm going to be a father. What should we do? Should we tell anyone, or let them found out normally?" He was so excited; he just wanted to shout the news to everyone who would listen.

Maya shook her head. "Miracle this may be that I am with child after our first time, but, we should let nature take its course, and act as if we do not know." She was scared of what people might think if they all knew that she was pregnant after the first and only time. People might think that they had 'been' before there time to 'be'.

Dominic could see the stress in his love's body language, and held her close, nodding. "Whatever you want, Maya. I am just happy, we are a family, and we have a joyous gift on the way. Back to bed with you, however, I'm not done making your breakfast, and I intend to spend all day in bed, with you."

A small smile quirked his lips as he bent forward and nuzzled her cheek a bit before giving her a kiss, turning her about, and giving a gentle nudge in the direction of the bedroom.
